 Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant Radiologist in Gatrointestestinal Interventional at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of a high-quality radiology service within a busy imaging department providing both general and specialist services in diagnostics.

The post preferably requires experience in working in the NHS for at least 1 year with a 1 year experience of taking part in the Non Vascular Interventional on call roster.

The successful candidate will join a team of 30  other Consultant Radiologists in Bradford.

Main duties of the job

There are up to 20 Radiology trainees in Bradford at any one time and there is a responsibility to undertake appropriate teaching of health care professionals within the Trust.  Undergraduate medical students from Leeds have clinical attachments within the Trust and Radiology department.

The post-holder is managerially accountable to The Divisional Clinical Director of the Anaesthesia, Diagnostics and Surgical Division. The candidate is professionally accountable to the Medical Director at BTHFT.

General Acute service: Radiologists are expected to contribute to the weekly rota to provide Duty Radiologist or Inpatient CT or MR hot reporting. They are expected to check overnight on call reports and support trainees with acute general reporting.

On call: It is anticipated that the applicant will contribute to the Non Vascular Interventional on-call

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to have experience in GI interventional Radiology and to be able to support the  non vascular on call roeter. General Radiology demands of the department and to maintain clinical skills for the on-call commitment, with at least 1 session of general CT / MR reporting is time-tabled.

Specialty: Some Radiologists will have additional specialty preference which the department will try to support. The radiologist will join their specialty colleagues to report from the specialty ‘reporting basket’ in PACS (AGFA Enterprise) as well as ‘acute’ reporting baskets. They may prepare and attend Specialty MDTs and clinical meetings and will be expected to be available to respond to specialist queries. Specialty sessions in US, fluoroscopy, and intervention as required by specialty. 

Home working, home reporting and extended working days are negotiable following review with the CSU lead, up to one day non-working and one day working from home. 

Radiologists are expected to mentor Radiology Trainees as Clinical Supervisors and are encouraged to take on Educational Trainees following appropriate training. There is a responsibility to undertake appropriate teaching of health care professionals within the Trust. Undergraduate medical students from Leeds have clinical attachments within the Trust and Radiology Department.

The post-holder is managerially accountable to the Clinical Director of the Clinical Service Unit in the first instance and professionally accountable to the Medical Director at BTHFT. The CSU leadership team comprises the Clinical Director, General Manager and Workforce Lead, supported by Administrative Managers and Modality Superintendent Radiographers.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
  • MRCP or FRCS of equivalent to specialty (UK) or equivalent
