The post-holder will work within the Reproductive Health and Childbirth Research team, with potential to help other research teams within the Trust.

The post-holder will support the delivery of first-class research projects within the Reproductive Health and Childbirth research team, to meet NIHR recruitment targets and key performance indicators (KPIs). The post-holder will be supervised by the Senior Research Midwife.

The post-holder will play an active role in supporting the Reproductive Health and Childbirth Research team to expand their clinical trials portfolio with recruitment into a range of local, regional and national/international clinical trials. This will include effectively communicating and establishing closer links with the multi-disciplinary teams within Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and maintaining existing links across the Yorkshire and Humber Clinical Research Network and Pharmaceutical companies.

 The post-holder may be required to travel and work at other sites across the area.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will support the co-ordination and project management of a defined portfolio of research activity within the Reproductive Health and Childbirth  research team at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, under the supervision of the Senior Research Midwife, thus providing assurance that the rights, safety and wellbeing of study participants are protected and ensuring the production of good quality research in accordance with the Research Governance Framework and Good Clinical Practice guidelines.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

 The post-holder will support the delivery of research studies within the portfolio, recruiting and educating patients, obtaining patient consent for non-interventional studies, monitoring  patients on studies, collecting and documenting data accurately as required, and processing all amendments in line with HRA and local policies within expected timelines, liaising with research teams and support departments as required.

 The post-holder will perform or assist with clinical procedures as per trial protocol(s) as appropriate, eg, phlebotomy and the collection and management of patient samples.

The post-holder will be responsible for the supervision and line-management of clinical trial assistant posts within the research team and supervising student nurses, trainee medical students and volunteers on placement within the research team.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a research environment (NHS, University or Industry)
  • Previous relevant experience of working in an office environment at a senior level
  • Experience of working to tight deadlines
  • Demonstrates past experience of team working
  • Experience of working within a research role
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of undertaking research costing
  • Experience of managing a group of staff or a team

Skills

  • Be able to manage and prioritise own workload effectively on a day to day basis

  • Understanding of the NIHR iCT and costing methodology

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BTEC Level 3 or GNVQ Level 3 or A levels in relevant discipline or equivalent
  • Undergraduate degree in relevant discipline or relevant experience
Desirable criteria
  • Care Certificate
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) trained

Other requirements

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work in various locations throughout the Trust, as required, and be able to carry out the physical elements of the post., eg prolonged computer work and phlebotomy.
