Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals who enjoys the challenge of working in an environment where no two days are the same and who can provide administrative support to a busy  ward

A good standard of general education, previous NHS clerical experience and excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. 

Main duties of the job

The prime responsibilities of the post holder will be to assist the nursing teams of the department with a variety of administrative and clerical duties. The successful applicants will work as part of a team and be responsible for the provision of a high quality administrative service to the ward.

The role is for one full time 37.5hrs per week over five days, and a part time role for 19.5hrs per week, to jointly cover a seven day service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To undertake administrative duties at ward level including the accurate and timely recording of patient activity data on Trust systems. To undertake clerical and related duties on the ward and enable Sister/Charge Nurse and other ward staff to concentrate more freely on direct patient care.  This will involve considerable liaison with other departments and wards on behalf of the ward staff. 

 

The jobholder will contribute to the maintenance of an environment for effective care.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office applications
  • Previous NHS experience in a secretarial / administrative role for a minimum of 1 year
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge / experience of PAS
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent
  • Good general education
Desirable criteria
  • RSA II typing/Word processing or equivalent

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing
