Job overview

The successful candidate will work as the Associate Dean Lead for supporting the implementation of blended learning and simulation, alongside other innovative training posts to support the expansion of placement capacity within the region.  The office base will be in Cambridge however, will consist of primarily working remotely, although it is important to note that travel across the region may be required. 

This is a new, and exciting post that will require on the job development as we navigate the requirements of the upcoming workforce plan and the newly published 10 year plan. 

Main duties of the job

The Associate Dean is professionally and managerially accountable to the Head of School for General Practice and through the Deputy Dean to the Postgraduate Dean.

The Associate Dean will focus upon improvement of learner supervision, assessment and experience, engagement of faculty and ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future. The role is evolving and will also focus on whole workforce transformation and developing multi-professional links.

The post holder is a key member of the team working with Post Graduate Doctors in Training who are appointed to GP training programmes within the east of England.

The postholder will be expected to develop and maintain positive relationships with all internal and external stakeholders and may be expected to carry out other appropriate delegated duties as required.

Essential criteria
  • Primary Clinical healthcare qualification
  • Evidence of commitment to Continuous Professional Development
  • Holds or is working towards a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education
  • Holds a license to practice
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable Leadership skills and an ability to influence and motivate others

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with learners or doctors in training in an educational context
  • Experience of clinical and educational leadership and innovation, including managing a multi-professional team
  • Understanding of developments involving the relevant Colleges/Faculties, professional bodies, related NHS organisations and regulatory bodies
  • Understanding of the workforce transformation agenda
Desirable criteria
  • Previous or current appointment as a leader in healthcare education
  • Understanding of current health, social care and education policy
