Job overview

Exciting opportunity to work in a busy GP practice as part of the established admin team providing day to day reception and admin support for the GPs, Nurses, Pharmacists and other primary care staff to ensure smooth running of the practice and facilitate patients access to appointments and primary care services. We can accommodate part time, full time or job share. If you have excellent communication skills and enjoy contact with people this is the job for you, working with the rest of the team to help make a difference.

Main duties of the job

The role includes providing a patient facing service from reception for all patients whether over the phone or when the patient attends for appointments at the practice. Main duties include maintaining and monitoring the practice appointments system, processing personal and telephone requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional, processing and distributing incoming (and outgoing) mail, taking messages and passing on information, filing and retrieving paperwork, processing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription queries in accordance with practice guidelines, initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team member and associated healthcare agencies and providers, and providing  assistance to practice staff.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSEs standard including Maths and English Language
  • GDPR and the principles of confidentiality
  • Ability to demonstrate and understanding of confidentiality dealing with complex problems and confidential information
  • Knowledge of administration procedures
Desirable criteria
  • OCR Level 2 Diploma in Business Adminstration
  • Good understanding and knowledge of General Practice and Primary Care
  • Comprehensive use of SystmOne - setting up journals/ledgers and giving staff access to the system
