Job overview

An experienced Nurse is required to manage our 6 bedded inpatient unit within HMP Durham.

The post holder will  take responsibility for the daily management, co-ordination and delivery of evidence-based care within our Inpatient unit.

They will also work closely with our Complex care lead to undertake assessments and plan care for the wider prison population that are deemed to have complex needs.

 

Main duties of the job

HMP Durham is the only reception prison within the North East.   The work is challenging but very rewarding.  We deal with a diverse patient population.  Every prisoner that comes into prison needs to be assessed using national templates. We need to  ensure high standards of quality and safe patient care through assessing and managing the governance of current provisions of care. The days are varied, and you will be part of a wider multi-disciplinary team delivering primary care, mental health and substance misuse services to our patients.  No two days will be the same working within our friendly and supportive team. You must have significant post registration experience with excellent clinical nursing knowledge and eager to develop your managerial skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are crucial with the ability to work well as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered General Nurse Level 1
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD and delivery of evidence based care
  • Independent Nurse /Supplementary/ NonMedical Prescriber qualification or willingness to undertake
  • Appropriate management qualification of equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • RCGP Cert 1/2 Primary Care/LTC qualification

Experience

  • Post registration experience
  • Significant experience of working in a complex environment with multidisciplinary professionals demonstrating effective communication and leadership skills
  • Be able to demonstrate experience of clinical governance used to improve patient care
  • Experience of working as an autonomous practitioner
  • Change management experience
  • Experience of leading a team and effectively using policy and procedures to improve clinical and professional standards
  • Experience of multidisciplinary/multi agency working
  • Understanding and application of confidentiality
