The Training Programme Director for Surgical International Medical Graduates will support the Head of School in the Strategic Development of the School of Surgery
The post holder will specifically have responsibility for:
- Strategy development and implementation to enable support for surgical post-graduate doctors in training (PGDIT) that are international medical graduates (IMG). This will include development of both educators and PGDIT’s. This will also include development of strategies improving opportunities for these residents
- Support PGDIT’s to enable access to opportunities to complement the existing surgical curriculum and provide pastoral support to IMG PGDIT’s.
- The post holder will lead on the development of the School’s Recruitment and Retention Strategy and contribute to supporting the School Operational Programme.

- Work in collaboration with Head of School of Surgery to develop and implement a Medical Workforce Strategy which supports the retention of Surgical Trainees with focus on the developing opportunities and support for IMG PGDIT’s.

The Programme Director will ensure that both national standards, determined by the Royal College, and guidelines and standards established within Surgery are met.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced NHS Consultant with a thorough understanding of Surgery Exam training across the region and who will also have strong leadership and communication skills and be able to work effectively as a member of a multi-professional team

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Consultant or Specialty Doctor in a Surgical discipline working in NHS in North-West England
- Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons
Desirable criteria
- Education Qualification such as Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma or Masters in Medical Education

Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Considerable experience of working with doctors in an educational context
- Experience as an educational supervisor
- Previous or current appointment as a Leader in Healthcare Education
- Understanding the Workforce Transformation agenda

- Trained and experienced in recruitment, selection and Equality and Diversity in the last 3 years
- Demonstrable track record of delivery in service and education
- Applicants who are doctors require a Licence to Practise
