Job overview

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Education Fellow to join our Medical Education Team for a 1-year, fixed-term contract at 0.5 WTE. This role is ideal for clinicians with a passion for education who wish to develop their teaching, leadership, and training skills within a supportive environment.

 

The post-holder will contribute to the planning, delivery, and evaluation of high-quality educational programmes for medical trainees, including resident doctors, GP trainees, and medical students, with a particular focus on simulation-based learning and clinical skills teaching.

Main duties of the job

The Education Fellow will support the delivery of high-quality teaching and supervision for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes, including bedside teaching, simulation, and skills sessions. They will assist with curriculum development, quality assurance, and trainee inductions, contributing to feedback, assessment, and educational improvement initiatives. The role involves leadership and administrative support, including acting as a point of contact for trainees, maintaining records, and participating in committees and planning activities. The post holder will also engage in professional development and support colleagues in fostering reflective practice and learning.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

 

Educational Delivery

Facilitate and deliver teaching sessions across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including simulation, clinical skills, and professional development.

Support bedside teaching and clinical supervision in alignment with curriculum requirements.

Assist in designing innovative teaching materials and e-learning resources.

Simulation and Skills Programmes

Lead simulation-based learning sessions and workshops for trainees.

Support development of scenarios, assessment frameworks, and reflective learning exercises.

Maintain and prepare simulation equipment and clinical skills resources.

 

Curriculum and Quality Assurance

Assist in monitoring and evaluating educational programmes to ensure compliance with GMC and other relevant standards.

Contribute to feedback collection, reporting, and quality improvement initiatives in education.

To take a lead role in the support with Resident Doctor and Medical Student inductions

Leadership and Administration

Support trainee progression, appraisal processes, and portfolios as required.

Participate in departmental meetings, educational committees, and planning activities.

Maintain accurate records of teaching activities, attendance, and outcomes.

Act as a point of contact for trainees and medical students during placements.

Professional Development

Engage in personal development in medical education through workshops, conferences, and formal training.

Support colleagues and trainees in professional growth and reflective practice.

Person specification

Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • Full Registration with GMC and fitness to practice
  • Currently in a recognised training post (FY2, CT1-CT2) or equivalent experience as a Locally Employed Doctor
  • Successful outcomes for ARCP/Appraisals
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate Qualification in Medical Education (eg PGCert, PGDip or equivalent)

Knowledge, Experience & Expertise

Essential criteria
  • Experience in clinical practice at FY2, CT1-CT2 Level
  • Interest in medical education, teaching and/or training
  • Experience in delivering teaching, tutorials or clinical supervision (formal or informal)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback to trainees
  • Competent with IT systems, e-Learning platforms and simulation equipment
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of GMC training standards and UK Postgraduate medical education framework
  • Experience of assessment and evaluation tools for trainee learning
  • Confidence in delivering teaching in a variety of formats (face to face, simulation, virtual)
  • Experience in simulation-based education and clinical skills teaching
  • Experience leading induction sessions or trainee/student orientation programmes
  • Participation in curriculum development, assessment or quality assurance activities
