We are committed to recruiting to our values.  Leading One Culture of Care underpins our values by creating an environment, tone and behaviours across all parts of the Trust that are fundamentally rooted in compassionate care.

We are open to considering a wide range of flexible working arrangements. There are opportunities to flex the days of the week, hours and times of work and place of work including: part-time, job-share, flexible working hours and the possibility to work from home when appropriate. Please talk to us during the interview process to discuss any flexibility that you may require.

We received our Silver Award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme which is helping actively promote SaBRE - Supporting Britain’s Reservists and Employers. This means that we provided its statement of intent to support all Defence personnel and we welcome application to work for us.

Our Future Plans

Job overview

Working as a key member of the Library and Knowledge Service (LKS) team, the Senior Library Technician will support the efficient delivery of high-quality library and information services to staff and students at CHFT. The postholder will provide comprehensive paraprofessional support across all areas of the service, including maintenance and administration of library systems, delivering teaching sessions, conducting literature searches and supporting marketing and promotion activities. The postholder will work with a high degree of autonomy, including periods of lone working, and will manage their own workload and priorities, seeking guidance from the Library Manager as required.

Main duties of the job

This is the role for you if you:

  • Enjoy working with people – This is a customer-facing role, and you’ll spend much of your time supporting staff and students from across the Trust. You’ll help users get the most out of our library services and provide support when things don’t go to plan.
  • Have strong IT and digital skills – You’ll regularly use a range of systems and tools, from creating presentations and managing the library catalogue system to conducting literature searches on bibliographic databases and supporting systematic reviews.
  • Are confident communicating with groups – This is a varied role that goes beyond the enquiry desk. You’ll be involved in delivering inductions and teaching sessions, presenting at events and representing the library service at multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Have a passion for libraries – The library service is about much more than books. We support research, education and professional development across the Trust, and we’re looking for someone who is keen to make a positive contribution to the team.

Working for our organisation

CHFT is an integrated Trust of 6,500+ colleagues providing hospital and community services to patients and communities across Calderdale and Kirklees.  Our people are at the core of everything we do, hence our commitment to One Culture of Care. Our focus is to care for and support each other in order to provide outstanding compassionate care to our patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Coordinate the day-to-day operation of the library enquiry desk, ensuring efficient service delivery and resolving both routine and complex enquiries
  • Provide guidance and support to users in accessing library resources, databases and electronic systems
  • Develop, deliver and evaluate teaching sessions on information skills and literature searching to support education, research and career development
  • Conduct literature searches to support clinical and non-clinical decision making across the Trust
