Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic person to join our Speech and Language Therapy team
With the guidance and support of the Speech and Language Therapists, you will work directly with adult patients in an acute hospital setting, to ensure that they receive the best possible care.
Main duties of the job
Your day to day role will include helping the Speech and Language Therapists to support patients' with their communication needs and assist the Speech and Language Therapist to ensure that the delegated care plan is carried out effectively. You will also support the Speech and Language Therapists to facilitate a seamless transfer of care between acute and community settings.
This role will also involve administrative tasks including booking appointments for Speech and Language Therapy clinics and arranging transport. Excellent interpersonal skills and IT skills are essential. The role will also involve preparation and facilitation of presentations to patient groups and delivering training sessions for the wider health care team. You will be a key part of any health promotion campaigns which will raise the profile of Speech and Language Therapy

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Activities will include:- Implementing treatment to protocols, and based on competencies.- Monitoring progress and feeding back to the registered practitioner- Making minor adjustments to treatment programmes within pre determined limits- Assisting registered practitioners with complex treatment.- May involve screening for specific disorders and issuing predetermined basic equipment and advice according to service protocols and established guidelines.- Ordering of equipment and supplies as per service requirements-May include leading and assisting with group exercise and advice sessions.-Organising/facilitating health promotion campaigns
The post holder will work as part of the wider Health and Social Care Team linking with staff from the Acute Trust, Primary and Social Care.The post holder will be required to undertake lone working in line with Trust policy.Administrative duties and general patient care across departments are required.The post holder will be proactive and be able to demonstrate self directed development andpractice.

Knowledge, Experience & Expertise
Essential criteria
- Previous experience working and communicating with the public in a social/health care/educational setting
- Willing and able to participate in competency work based training programmes
- IT literate (email, internet,) and experience of using databases
- An understanding of the needs and issues concerning illness and disability
- An understanding of enabling a person to re-learn skills
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with SALT
- Previous experience working in a multidisciplinary team in health, social care or education setting
- Experience of teaching and instructing an/or working with groups
- Experience of dealing with clients with complex needs and their carers
- Previous competency based training in relevant field
- Experience of using electronic patient record systems
- Knowledge of the client group and evidence related training
- Understand needs of specific client group
Qualification/Training
Essential criteria
- English and Math GCSE grade 9-2 (A*-E) or equivalent or high level of literacy and numeracy skills demonstrated within application
- Competence based level 3 Qualification e.g. NVQ or Diploma in Care or The Care Certificate issued by an employer
Communication and relationships (including management responsibilities)
