Job overview

To work as a team member providing support to Medical and Nursing Staff as required.  The post will include Clinical Chaperoning, phlebotomy and microscopy (when trained). To set up and close down the clinical area, be responsible to ensure that stock levels are maintained and to have an awareness of clerical duties needed to book service users in to try to build a flexible workforce.

  • Preparation of examination rooms and the clinical environment in accordance with the Trusts infection control policy to ensure the patient/clinic environment is clean and safe 
  • .Assisting with examinations, as directed by the clinician
  • Chaperone procedures as directed by the clinician
  • Phlebotomy with training
  • Microscopy with training
  • Facilitate Test & Go asymptomatic testing lists

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Preparation of examination rooms and the clinical environment in accordance with the Trusts infection control policy to ensure the patient/clinic environment is clean and safe

 

  • .Assisting with examinations, as directed by the clinician

 

  • Chaperone procedures as directed by the clinician

 

  • Phlebotomy with training

  • Microscopy with training

 

  • Facilitate Test & Go asymptomatic testing lists

 

 

  • Recording of routine observations, eg weight, blood pressure and temperature.

  • Assisting patients to dress and undress, as necessary.

 

  • Assisting patients with poor mobility in accordance with manual handling policies.

  • To establish and maintain effective communication and relationships with multidisciplinary team.


  • Removal of all debris and soiled linen after each clinic to prevent cross infection in compliance with Trust Policy.

  • To provide cover at times of absence due to holiday or sickness.


  • Maintenance of stock items.

  • Dealing with telephone calls in a pleasant and courteous manner

 

  • Assist with the provision of essential nursing care, under the direction of a registered nurse and in accordance with the plan of care.

 

  • Recognise the individual abilities and needs of each patient and promote independence and self-management.

 

  • Be able to explain the patient journey, including examination procedure and how to prepare patient physically and mentally.

 

  • Demonstrates an understanding of normal results and the importance of reporting abnormal results to a qualified Nurse.

 

  • To supervise the maintenance of clinical rooms to receive clients and removal of all debris and soiled linen after each clinic to prevent cross infection in compliance with Trust Policy

 

  • To take responsibility for the maintenance of stock items in conjunction with lead nurse.

 

Person specification

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • English and Math GCSE grade 9-2 (A*-E) or equivalent or high level of literacy and numeracy skills demonstrated within application
  • Competence based level 2 Qualification e.g. NVQ or Diploma in Care or The Care Certificate issued by an employer
  • Willingness to undertake any training or development relevant to the role
Desirable criteria

  • Competent / able to evidence the completion of Health Care Assistant core competencies
  • Competence based level 3 Qualification e.g. NVQ or Diploma in Healthcare Support
