Job overview
To manage on a day-to-day basis the Trust Medical Appraisal and Revalidation processes for non- training grade medical staff and to support the Responsible Officer and Clinical Lead for Medical Appraisal and Revalidation in delivering the requirements of the GMC Revalidation Regulations (2012).
Main duties of the job
To support the Responsible Officer and Clinical Lead in their responsibility to drive forward the development and quality of medical appraisal and Trust requirements in respect of revalidation.
The main responsibilities will also include; budget management, develop policies and procedures, oversee the allocation of appraisers and appraisees in line with Trust Policy.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The postholder role is:
• To support the Responsible Officer and Clinical Lead in their responsibility to drive forward the development and quality of medical appraisal and Trust requirements in respect of revalidation.
• To develop policies and procedures as required in line with local and national requirements.
• To arrange and facilitate the Trust medical appraiser network and training sessions and to deliver training sessions as required.
• To act as a point of contact in relation to appraisal and revalidation enquiries. This will involve liaising with all stakeholders including the Medical Director, Divisional Directors, Clinical Directors, individual doctors, GMC.
• To oversee the allocation of appraisers and appraisees in line with Trust Policy and implement dispute process when necessary.
• To keep under review the GMC Connect system to ensure that the list of doctors with a prescribed connection to the Trust is accurate.
• To draft the annual revalidation and appraisal report for the Trust Board of Directors and complete the required reports for NHSE (quarterly and annual audits and self assessments).
• To attend the quarterly Responsible Officer Network and Regional Appraisal Leads Network meetings.
• To manage the revalidation and appraisal e-portfolio system, liaising with the contractor regarding changes to the system and providing training to staff as necessary. To liaise with key stakeholders regarding requirements and tendering processes for new systems as required.
• To provide accurate and timely reports to Clinical Directors and Divisional Directors regarding appraisal compliance.
• To ensure all doctors with a prescribed connection to the Trust are provided with timely and accurate guidance regarding the requirements for revalidation, providing support where necessary.
• To draft correspondence to all non-training grades doctors in relation to revalidation and appraisal.
• To continuously monitor the appraisal system and identify areas of development and produce plans to ensure and improve quality.
• To provide and present complex data on request and draft reports supporting the good practice and quality of Medical Appraisal and Revalidation processes within the Trust.
• To be the first line manager of the Appraisal and Revalidation Administrator
• To be the authorised signatory for the revalidation budget.

Qualifications/Training
Essential criteria
- English and Math GCSE grade 9-2 (A*-E) or equivalent
- Willing to undertake additional training as required.

- Evidence of continued professional development
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE
Essential criteria
- Specialist, expert level of knowledge of medical revalidation, appraisal and governance.
- Experience of drafting correspondence and reports
- Experience in the use of Microsoft 365 and experience in using TEAMS for both meetings and live events
- Experience of managing change
- Ability to work autonomously, prioritise own workload and act on own initiative.
- Ability to recognise and deal with problems as they arise and identify when issues need to be escalated.
- A flexible approach to work and work hours.
COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIPS (INCLUDING MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES)
Essential criteria
- Experience of working with people from a variety of backgrounds within a complex organisation
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating assertiveness in dealing with medical professional/senior staff.
- Confident in the ability to present effectively in front of large groups.
- An ability to maintain a professional manner in interactions with colleagues.
- Experience of line management of staff.
- Good working knowledge of performance management.
