Job overview
We require a Band 3 Medical Secretary based at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary within oncology services - there may be potential to be requested to work cross site/directorate subject to service needs.
We have a large diverse team who cover all of Medicine's Services.

Main duties of the job
An opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Medical Secretary to join the team within Oncology, Medical Division,
- Autonomous working but also part of a larger team.
- The applicant must have extensive secretarial experience in an office environment and preferably medical terminology. As the role will involve large volumes of typing they must have previous experience of audio and touch typing and be able to prioritise conflicting and demanding workloads.
- The successful applicant must possess excellent communication skills and have the ability to work well in a team.
- The successful applicant should possess RSA II Word processing or equivalent and have a good standard of general education with the desire to learn new skills and undertake training. Experience of EPR systems would be beneficial as would experience in an NHS setting.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Large volumes of administrative duties, audio typing, EPR, ESR, diary management, telephone communication, patient pathway review, incomplete outcomes in clinic, correspondence management across two systems, accuracy is essential. Actively work as part of a larger team, and support subject to service needs. Post, email, cover for colleagues in other services. Work closely with consultants & clinicians as well as management. Be the first point of contact for patients, GP's & other Trusts. Cover if the situation arises for other services, arrange and minute meetings if required, and any other duties.

Qualfications/Training
Essential criteria
- GCSE English and Maths grade 9-3 (A*-D)
- Accurate keyboard skills to RSA 2 or equivalent.
- Evidence of commitment to organisational and individual development and undertake all mandatory training where required
Desirable criteria
- ECDL/NVQ2 in Business Admin/Customer Service or equivalent
Knowledge, experience & expertise
Essential criteria
- Experience in an office environment
- Experience of using computer programmes e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook
- Experience of working to deadlines and targets
- Ability to organise and prioritise own workload
- Must have good and accurate inputting skills
- Experience of audio/touch typing with speed and accuracy
