Job overview

We invite dynamic and enthusiastic applicants to join us at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust as Static Band 5 Outpatient physiotherapists.

Our outpatient physiotherapy team see patients referred from  services across the Calderdale and Huddersfield health economy, with our services offered on a number of sites. In Calderdale we offer the full MSK pathway, including FCP, out-patient physiotherapy and the MSK service who work closely with orthopaedic services

We are committed to supporting our static band 5 physiotherapists to develop their MSK skills with protected time and support from our senior clinicians. 

The post is aimed at existing band 5 physiotherapists who have NHS experience .

Main duties of the job

  • To manage own caseload in these settings as an autonomous practitioner with supervision as required and contribute to the work of the
  • To work autonomously within Trust policies and professional practice, maintaining accurate and comprehensive up to date

  • The post-holder will rotate around locations within the Calderdale and Huddersfield health economy, working in lively, friendly hubs where you will have support on an informal basis and through formal supervision and annual appraisal.
  • In addition to mandatory training you will have opportunities to participate in relevant in-service training and other activities as part of continual professional development.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • To work within the service, applying effective clinical interventions within the specialty in line with current evidence
  • To manage autonomously, a clinical workload of patients/clients, assessing and treating patients and maintaining clinical records, referring queries to senior
  • To use shared-decision making to support patients to set their own goals and be confident in their approach to self-management.
  • To have physiotherapy assessment and treatment skills in the areas listed but not limited to:
    • Physical rehabilitation through manual therapy
    • Physical rehabilitation through exercise and function
    • Physical rehabilitation through pain relief: could include acupuncture, electrotherapy etc.
    • An awareness of bio-psychosocial assessment of patients and carers
    • Cognitive and perceptual understanding of condition/person
    • Falls assessment
    • Use of a variety of appropriate outcome measures
  • To communicate effectively using non-verbal, verbal, written and electronic
  • To liaise and develop rapport with patients/clients, carers, members of the MDT, where appropriate, and outside agencies under guidance of a senior
  • To act, within the service, as a resource and provide advice for other professionals and colleagues within the MDT about the assessment, treatment, management and care of patients/clients with support from senior
  • To work alongside other professionals to ensure effective care pathways
  • To make appropriate referrals to other agencies/practitioners.
  • To deliver programmes of assessment, treatment and intervention for patients/clients with support from senior
  • To manage and prioritise own clinical workload as appropriate, working efficiently to manage professional time and delegate according to the training and competency levels of other team members to ensure the effective delivery of the
  • To participate in the supervision
  • To ensure a high standard of patient care is provided including implementing clinical standards relevant to the work
  • To provide assessment and advice for the MDT and participate in MDT meetings as appropriate.
  • With experience, plan and delegate workload to
  • Dependent on Service requirements and previous experience you may be required to participate unsupervised in the out of hours respiratory on call service and weekend orthopaedic service, where needed. Once a member of staff has completed 3 years in a static out-patient role, they can opt out of the respiratory on-call rota.

Professional Duties

  • To comply with protocols, procedures and guidelines both clinical and service
  • To contribute to governance initiatives when required by senior staff e.g. clinical
  • To ensure treatments offered to patients/clients are based on the best available clinical evidence by keeping up to date with current literature, implementing research tools and liaising with other practitioners, both within and outside the service, in order to develop and maintain best
  • To generate and contribute to the collection of data, as required for the service, both manually and
  • To undertake clinical audit as
  • To participate in in-service training programmes, under
  • To undertake appropriate development opportunities as identified at yearly personal development reviews and through personal development plans. To incorporate acquired knowledge into working practice as appropriate, following discussion with Clinical Lead/Team Leader. To disseminate information from training effectively throughout the team, the service and MDT as
  • To participate in the Community Healthcare Division supervision process and peer review and maintain an up to date CPD portfolio including evidence of experiential learning, reflective practice and any relevant training or experience. This should demonstrate responsibility for maintaining own competency to
  • To participate in the Trust Personal Development Review process taking responsibility to comply with an agreed personal development
  • To give advice, teaching and training to patients/clients, carers, volunteers and other health, educational and social care professionals, as appropriate to ensure provision of good patient
  • With experience may share responsibility for the clinical education of undergraduate Physiotherapists and on completion of the appropriate clinical educator training may take responsibility for students under the guidance of a senior
  • To support senior therapists with the education of students from other professional groups e.g. Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists as required.
  • Report to senior staff any circumstances that could prevent the post holder fulfilling the requirements of the job

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • Relevant Degree/Diploma
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Willingness to undertake additional and mandatory training as required
  • Willing and able to participate in a competency work-based training programme
Desirable criteria
  • Member of Professional Body

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

Essential criteria
  • Postgraduate experience in a range of clinical areas.
  • Post graduate outpatient band 5 physiotherapy experience
  • NHS experience
  • Evidence of CPD and reflective practice.
  • Good clinical reasoning skills
  • Awareness of relevant Legislation, NSF’S/ Local and National initiatives
  • Basic understanding of Clinical Governance
  • Critical Appraisal Skills
  • Ability to maintain legible and accurate records
  • Ability to undertake assessment and formulate treatment / management programmes with patients/clients, acting as an autonomous practitioner
  • Presentation skills
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of Respiratory on call
