Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our continuously developing Urgent, Medical and Frailty Same Day Emergency Care Unit and Medical Day Case Unit.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting the Unit Manager with the continuous improvement of the department, effectively monitoring and maintaining excellent standards of care that are reflected by patient experience. Experience in Acute Medicine or the Emergency Department is essential for this role to support staff with unwell patients and to lead by example to identify and act accordingly to the deteriorating patient.

You will work closely with the multi - disciplinary team receiving referrals for appropriate patients to come to the unit and sign post referrers to more appropriate services if required. You will play a pivotal role in patient flow 24 hours a day, not just within the unit but within the Accident and Emergency Department and the Acute wards.

You must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you will have a proactive management style, anticipating and dealing with issues constructively within the multidisciplinary team setting.  You must be flexible in your approach to the role and respond appropriately to the demands of an ever-changing fast paced workload.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide clinical and managerial leadership for nursing and support staff across the different units.
  • To deputise for the Lead Nurse in their absence
  • To assist the Lead Nurse in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation or services
  • To work clinically in all areas
  • To co - ordinate day and night shifts ensuring safe patient care and take referrals from the multi - disciplinary team

Working for our organisation

We employ more than 6,500 staff who deliver compassionate care from our two main hospitals, Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary as well as in community sites, health centres and in patients’ homes. We also are incredibly proud to have almost 150 volunteers here at CHFT.

We provide a range of services including urgent and emergency care; medical; surgical; maternity; gynaecology; critical care; children’s and young people’s services; end of life care and outpatient and diagnostic imaging services.

We provide community health services, including sexual health services in Calderdale from Calderdale Royal and local health centres. These include Todmorden Health Centre and Broad Street Plaza.

We continue to modernise and invest in our health services to build on our strong reputation. Foundation trusts are public leaders in improving quality in health services. They are part of the NHS – yet decisions about what they do and how they do it are driven by independent boards. Boards listen to their Council of Governors and respond to the needs of their members – patients, staff and the local community.

Foundation trusts provide what the health service wants, yet are also free to invest quickly in the changes to the local community needs, in striving to be the best, and in putting their patients first.
