Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic nurse to join our Oncology and Haematology Helpline team,  at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking to recruit an exceptional individual with significant nursing experience in Oncology and/or Haematology and the delivery of systemic anti-cancer treatments. This role will also involve rotation onto the inpatient unit and chemotherapy day case units.

The successful candidate will possess excellent organisation, communication, decision making and motivational skills and will be a positive role model to other members of staff. You will have a kind, caring and compassionate manner towards patients and their families, and be willing to go the extra mile to ensure we deliver outstanding compassionate care, in line with the Trust's vision.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You must have significant experience in caring for patients with cancer, be competent in cannulation, venepuncture, care of central venous access devices and administration of IV medications, and must be accredited in the administration of cytotoxic medications.

Informal visits highly recommended.

  • Registered Nurse Qualification
  • Evidence of own post basic education to meet the requirements of the service and nurse registration

COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIPS (INCLUDING MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES)

Essential criteria
  • Ability to delegate, organise and prioritise care delivery
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrates professional leadership skills

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience as a band 5 registered nurse within a hospital setting
  • Ability to recognise and manage oncological emergencies
  • Knowledge of future provision of services
  • Competent in venepuncture, phlebotomy, IV medication administration and care of central venous access devices
  • A commitment to providing exceptional levels of patient care in a professional and compassionate manner
  • Competent in the delivery of SACT
  • Leadership and clinical supervision skills
  • Responsible for own post basic education to meet the requirements of the service
  • Recruitment and selection course attendance or willingness to work towards
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of clinical audit and service improvement
  • Leadership course or willingness to work towards
