Job overview

The post holder deputises for The Clinical Director of Pharmacy and is a member of the pharmacy senior management team. They lead on medicines management and medication procurement for the Trust.

The post holder will work with the Clinical Director of Pharmacy to ensure the strategy and operation of pharmacy services, is progressive, responsive to internal and external demand, patient focused, safe, efficient, and effective and is aligned with local and national standards and strategic goals of the Trust.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for the strategic development and operational management of the procurement, homecare, medicine information and clinical trials pharmacy service
  •  Providing the pharmacy leadership and support to both the Trust Medicines Management Committee and Area Prescribing Committee (APC) in relation to the introduction of new medicines, evaluation of information on new medicines and development of appropriate prescribing and administration guidelines etc
  • To lead, develop and implement medicines savings initiatives to meet the CHT Medicines CIP and ICB medicines optimisation agenda
  • To manage the safe, cost effective and timely procurement of medicines in accordance with Regional and National contracts and to administer and maintain national and regional drug purchasing contracts including input to tendering and adjudication of such contracts.
  •  To oversee the management of medicines Homecare schemes
  • Provide Digital Leadership for the Pharmacy Department representing Pharmacy at relevant Trust and ICS forums
  • Provide cross-site visible leadership
    • Under the direction of the Clinical Director of Pharmacy the post holder will help support large scale change projects such as the CHFT reconfiguration plans
    • Ensure the pharmacy team embrace digital development opportunities and optimise use of the Trust digital systems
    • Represent pharmacy at Trust internal and external committees and forums

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • MPharm or equivalent Degree in Pharmacy approved by General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent qualification)
  • 1 year pre-registration training
Desirable criteria
  • Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society
  • Postgraduate management qualification
  • Relevant management training
  • Relevant leadership training

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

Essential criteria
  • Significant post-registration experience as a practising pharmacist within a hospital environment with a proven managerial component to the job
  • Recent relevant experience of financial management and management of drug expenditure
  • Significant experience of project management/ service development
  • Use of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Detailed knowledge of Clinical Pharmacy, Medicines Management and Pharmacy Practice acquired through training and experience
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines whilst paying attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Planning and organisational skills
  • Able to effect and manage change
  • Problem solving and analytical skills
