Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated, inspiring individual to join our pharmacy team as Advanced Pharmacist (Education and Training)/ Lecturer Practitioner. 

The post holder is employed by Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust and seconded to the University of Huddersfield for 50% of the role. Time will be spent in the Trust as an active member of the education and training team under the leadership of the Head of Clinical Pharmacy Services developing and delivering education and training to junior staff within team, trainee pharmacists and undergraduate pharmacy students. The remainder of the role will be spent at the University of Huddersfield. You will be involved in preparation and delivery of lectures, seminars and workshops, you will also be involved in writing and marking OSCEs and exams, and marking portfolios and coursework. You will also have to opportunity to become a personal tutor for pharmacy undergraduate students and complete the PGCertHE if you have not already done so.

 

In addition to excellent communication and leadership skills, you will have previous experience of working within a clinical environment and training and/or significant experience in clinical teaching / tutoring. You will need to be comfortable collaborating with academics, clinicians, managers, nurses and others. 

Line management experience would be beneficial. 

Main duties of the job

You will be registered as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council and have successfully completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Practice or be able to demonstrate equivalent and transferrable experience. You will also be a registered non-medical prescriber. 

In the CHFT part of the role the postholder will develop a safe and supportive learning culture within the pharmacy department in conjunction with the Advanced Pharmacist - Education and Training  to enable the development of pharmacists at all stages of their training - with a focus on Undergraduate Pharmacy Students.

The role will include on-call duties and participation in weekend working.

At the University of Huddersfield the postholder will lead modules on the Undergraduate MPharm programme in Pharmacy, developing others through identification of training needs, mentoring and encouraging personal development and contribute to the successful management of the Undergraduate MPharm Programme by providing advice, counselling and pastoral support to students through the role of Personal Tutor.

 

This role is critical to providing a link between the pharmacist role in practice and the undergraduate student. The post holder will need to be flexible and organised, be able to align their values with those of the organisation, have the ability to delegate effectively and to work as part of a team with a ‘can do’ positive attitude.

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • MPharm or equivalent Degree in Pharmacy approved by General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Registered Pharmacist with the GPhC
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent qualification)
  • Independent Non-Medical Prescriber
Desirable criteria
  • Training and/or significant experience in clinical teaching / tutoring, audit, practice research, risk management
  • Registered Pharmacist with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain or other relevant professional bodies e.g. RPS Faculty, UKCPA
  • Teaching qualification / Fellowship of the HE Academy
  • Leadership / Management qualification

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

Essential criteria
  • Able to demonstrate significant relevant experience of clinical pharmacy practice
  • Considerable post-registration UK hospital experience
  • Excellent knowledge of Clinical Pharmacy, Medicines Management and Pharmacy Practice acquired through training and experience.
  • Experience of service development and improvement in area of specialty
  • Computer literate.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and recent experience of Pharmacy Practice Research and Clinical Audit and use of benchmarking and quality standards
  • Knowledge of drug budgets and formularies.
  • Awareness of own limitations
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of writing guidelines and policies and procedures and putting them into practice
  • Experience of high-level Trust committee or similar

COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIPS (INCLUDING MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES)

  • Able to concentrate for prolonged periods on occasion for prescription review, report writing.
  • Recent relevant experience of problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Demonstrate commitment to CPD.
  • Demonstrate evidence of education and training skills
  • Self-motivating and the ability to motivate and influence others
  • Ability to lead change, is motivated, enthusiastic, innovative and flexible.
