Job overview

The post holder undertakes pharmacy assistant duties in the store and distribution section.

The post holder will be an integral part of the Pharmacy team and will cover all assistant duties to support the demands of the service.

This post will require a Disclosure & Barring Services (DBS) check

Main duties of the job

To receive, assemble and deliver medicines and supplies for all areas of Pharmacy and also to wards, departments and clinics. Unpack, check, record and put away stock pharmaceutical products according to SOP’s, completing documentation including dating and signing.  Assisting with processing of invoices of good received. 

To ensure all medicines that are outstanding to ward/department  are ordered and the store manager informed.

To deliver urgent items to wards clinics and departments when required.

To participate in weekend, public holiday and extended hours provision of pharmacy services

To comply with Trust policies relating to security and patient confidentiality and to ensure that procedures are undertaken within safe systems of work and legislation

Working for our organisation

This is a physically demanding yet rewarding role and you will be trained in all aspects of pharmacy stores processes, if you don't hold an NVQ in pharmacy services then this isn't a problem, we will provide thorough training and support and during your time with us to undertake your role. 

It is an exciting time for pharmacy stores with new developements including automation of pharmacy supplies and there will be an opportunity to be involved in service improvement projects.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  Clinical Duties

To provide basic clinical technical services ensuring the correct stock medicines are available on wards for patients. 

Professional Duties

To participate in audits and surveys relating to the stores and distribution section

To undertake the store and distribution training 

  Managerial Duties

There are no managerial duties required in this post.

Responsible for checking, storage and distribution of medicines

Participate in regular supervision

Attend all mandatory training

Participate annually identifying, developing and agreeing your own development plan with your Line Manager using the Trust Appraisal

Comply with all Trust policies, procedures and protocols

Carry out duties with due regard to the Trust’s Equal Opportunity Policy

Seek advice and support from Line Manager whenever necessary

Maintain Trust conduct including appearance at all times

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • English and Math GCSE grade 9-2 (A*-E) or equivalent or high level of literacy and numeracy skills demonstrated within application
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services with appropriate Stock Control units or eligible to complete this qualification with on-the-job training and support given throughout

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

Essential criteria
  • Manual dexterity, strenuous bending and stretching and ability to lift up to 25kg
  • Able to pay meticulous attention to detail
  • Able to understand and follow written procedures
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated
  • Organised, tidy and methodical
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of stock control and stock management
  • Retail Pharmacy or hospital experience
  • Able to problem solve and work under own initiative
  • Standard keyboard skills

COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIPS (INCLUDING MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES)
