Job overview

1 x 20 hr 4pm-8pm Monday to Friday. 

To contribute to patient care by ensuring cleaning services are delivered in a professional, helpful and friendly manner by providing a high standard of cleanliness to Wards, Department, Residences and Offices in the Trust and associated buildings.

Main duties of the job

A vacancy has arisen for a Domestic Assistant to work within the Cleaning Service at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, joining a large and dedicated team. Responsible to the FM Supervisors. The role involves maintaining a high standard of cleaning in line with the Trust cleaning protocols;

The successful candidates would preferably have cleaning experience, although full training will be provided.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

General Day to Day Cleaning 

  • Sweeping, Mopping, Scrubbing / Polishing Floors.
  • Vacuum Cleaning of Carpets 
  • Damp Dusting / Polishing Furniture, Fixtures and Fittings etc.
  • Cleaning of Sanitary Areas.
  • Replenish Paper Products, Soap etc.
  • Disposal of Refuse.
  • Bed making in Residence's and On Call Doctors rooms, where applicable.
  • Sort Linen / Maintain Linen Levels where applicable.

Periodic / Specialists Cleaning 

  • Shampooing Carpets / Furniture.
  • Changing of Cubicle / Window Curtains where applicable.
  • Special / Intensive Cleaning at Supervisors request.
  • Thorough Clean  of Bed, Locker, Bed table etc. following patient discharge where applicable.
  • Special Cleaning of Infectious / Infected areas (HPV)
  • Window Cleaning where applicable.
  • Ensure all equipment is cleaned and correctly stored.

Kitchen Duties / Patient Services - Where applicable 

  • Collect in, wash and re-distribute water jugs / tumblers.
  • Beverage preparation.
  • Collect in dirty crockery.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen.

Other Duties - Where applicable 

  • Estates Reporting 
  • Stores Ordering.
  • Attend all mandatory training, and role specific training as required.

Person specification

Qualifications

Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 1 or 2 in Cleaning and Support Services
  • BICSc

knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Understand the need for attention to detail
Desirable criteria
  • Basic understanding of the Health Service and an awareness of National Standards of Cleanliness.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • The ability to communicate well with staff, patients and members of the public
  • Ability to deal with unpleasant spillages
Desirable criteria
  • Unsupervised working
  • Understand the need to exercise confidentiality, sensitivity and have an awareness of the demands placed on Cleaning Services staff
