Job overview

The post holder will carry out necessary maintenance tasks to ensure the safe and continuous operation of mechanical and electrical engineering services and the building plant located in the Trust.

·         The post holder will undertake specific maintenance tasks and will carry out maintenance and repair across a wide range of interconnected highly complex plant and equipment.  Reporting to the Maintenance Manager.

·         As an Electrical technician you will liaise with the management team on a daily basis in order to carry out work duties and report any issues.  You will also liaise with all the other members of the Estates Department on a regular basis to assist each other and share knowledge.

·         During your working duties you will have regular contact with all levels of staff, patients and contractors where you will be expected to explain the problems, offer solutions and be able to explain the impact of your work on their departments service delivery.

You will participate in an on - call rota system to provide a flexible out of hour’s service throughout the night for all emergency jobs, covering all possibilities including building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing trades.

Main duties of the job

  Relevant AP duties (HTM 06-02 LV / HTM 06-03 HV)

·         Assisting and supporting estate officers

·         Mentoring assistants and those working towards a craftsperson’s role

·         Cover the supervisor role when required

·         Cover estate officer basic duty’s when off site

·         Correct attitude and mindset setting an example to the rest of the team

·         Problem solving complicated electrical functions leading to a resolution 

·         Have/Attain detailed site knowledge and understanding of the electrical plant and equipment.

·         Work closely with the estate officers in key maintenance functions to achieve compliance 

·         Take responsibility for completing key actions from Electrical Installation Condition Reports

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·         Lead the electrical team, liaising with clinical staff for maintenance related tasks

·         Ordering of electrical/mechanical related materials

  Carry out maintenance tasks including statutory, mandatory, planned preventative and reactive maintenance

·         The use of electronic devices, PDA and IPAD for work allocation and completion of planned/reactive works.

·         Interpret and work from all instructions, drawings and specifications appropriate to his / her background and training, often without supervision

·         Assist in the setting out of new work, (identify materials for ordering and collect) using relevant tools and equipment, often without supervision

·         Use a flexible approach to perform a wide range of the duties

·         Manufacture, assembly, erection and installation of new work, without supervision

·         Undertake specific maintenance and repairs after dedicated in house training

·         Use and be competent in the use of all relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works

·         Learn new techniques, with training as necessary

·         Have an understanding of the relationship of other engineering staff’s trade to your own
