Calderdale & Huddersfield Solutions Ltd have an exciting opportunity for an entry level apprenticeship to Healthcare Science Clinical Engineering at NVQ Level 2.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will primarily carry out scheduled preventative maintenance on a wide range of Medical Devices; however they will also participate in the supply, repair, calibration, safety and acceptance testing. The post holder is required to work to high standards of safety and accountability and provide up to date technical information on medical devices and related subjects to key clinical staff. As a member of the Clinical Engineering service, the post holder will be expected to carry out their duties under direct supervision initially then with limited supervision once deemed competent, whilst following departmental and national policies at all times.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder is a member of a multi-disciplined team of specialist clinical engineers within the Clinical Engineering & Decontamination Service.
The post holder will identify devices requiring maintenance,
identify faults and repair equipment accordingly; this will include significant time working in clinical/ward areas and occasionally with manufacturers and their agents.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Academic electronics/mechanics knowledge NVQ Level 1 or above and Mathematics & English to GCSE A* - D or 9 – 3 or equivalent, all prerequisite qualifications for entry to the NVQ Level 2 in Healthcare Science Clinical Engineering
Desirable criteria
- Sciences Biology, Chemistry, Physics to A* - D or 9 – 3
Knowledge & Skills:
Essential criteria
- Ability to use and understand Excel, Word etc. to set up documents, templates, reports and spreadsheets and use and extract information from databases
- Able to provide Occasional working in awkward positions during servicing and repair of equipment
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Patient equipment and its application and management and engineering principles
- Knowledge of electrical workshop and field practices
- Knowledge of electrical and electronic engineering and fault finding techniques
- A good level of understanding of patient and staff risks arising from equipment failure, including reporting of incidents and MHRA Safety Alert distribution
- Working knowledge of relevant legislation, national standards, professional and health & safety requirements e.g. ISO, BSI, IEC
- Equipment management databases to maintain asset register and record work done
- Deal with occasional distressing circumstances when working in clinical areas e.g. trouble shooting problems on patient connected equipment in critical areas and operating theatres etc.
- Deal with complex and unpredictable situations
- A good level of understanding of patient and staff safety in relation to Patient equipment
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of Excel, Word and etc. to set up documents, reports and spreadsheets
Desirable criteria
- Experience of patient equipment
- Relevant experience in electro/mechanical engineering workshop practices and techniques post qualification or equivalent
- Experience in commissioning, preventative maintenance, servicing, inspection, repair, quality control, safety, acceptance testing and procurement
- The application of workshop technology to Patient equipment and techniques in healthcare
- Working in a hospital or similar environment / Working in patient areas
- Working using own initiative to prioritise work and responding to clinical needs
- An understanding of patient and staff risks arising from patient equipment
- Experience of working to a quality management system
General
Essential criteria
- Able to fulfil the health requirements of the post as identified in the Job Description, taking into account any reasonable adjustments recommended by Occupational Health
- Must be eligible to work in the UK
- Ability to work in various locations throughout the network of services provided by the Company and Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust
- Be prepared to undertake a period of study in addition to normal work during allocated hours
