Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Staff Nurse on the unit at Airedale. This is a JAG accredited unit with four functioning rooms. The unit provides a five day and out hours service which includes a nurse on call rota.
The function of the endoscopy unit is to provide a safe environment where patients receive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using a flexible endoscope. These include OGD, colonoscopies, flexi-sigmoidoscopies, ERCP, Cystoscopies, Respiratory service including EBUS and Bronchoscopy which are performed on the unit supporting national programmes for urology and respiratory disease.
The unit is part of the National Bowel Cancer screening programmes working in collaboration with Bradford Teaching Hospital

Main duties of the job
Responsible for delivery of care needs and maintenance of clinical standards under direction.
The development of programmes of care.
The implementation, evaluation and updating of care programmes.
The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and maybe required to demonstrate procedures and to supervise registered and unregistered staff.
Be accountable for personal nursing practice.
Maintain a high standard of patient care as associate nurse/named nurse. Be able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of patient care.
Be aware of current development and research in clinical practice, to JAG standards
Act as a mentor/assessor to students and Health Care Support Workers.
Participate and assist in research at ward/unit level.
Undertake study to meet the requirements of PREPP.
Act as a role model for junior staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Undertake training as required to develop competence in the Endoscopy Nurse Skill Set and in respect of the scope of professional practice.
Participate in on call rota once competency assessments are completed
Maintain custody of controlled drugs, checking and administering, checking and maintaining ward stock.
Assist medical staff and ascertain medical treatment and reports patient condition to medical staff and receive instructions.
Carry out nursing procedures and acts at all times in a professional manner.
Contribute to teaching and assessing of learners within the requirement of the NMC
Co-ordinates patient’s special diets in accordance to any pre procedure preparation
supporting ward teams and supervise the service.
To be responsible for your professional practice and for complying with the relevant standards and codes of practice set by your regulatory or professional body.
Learn to use and maintain specialised endoscopy equipment and video equipment
Knowledge and skills within Respiratory services i.e bronchoscopy, Endo bronchial Ultra -Sound and the therapeutic drains
Urology – cystoscopy, insertion of catheters
Supporting theatre staff with GA endoscopies
Organise nursing care plans including admission and discharge of patients in accordance with District Transfer Policy.
Assists in requesting of repairs of equipment and advise patients on the care of their property.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Nursing Degree
- Registered with NMC
Desirable criteria
- ENB 998/SLIP or equivalent
- First level degree or equivalent
- Post registration endoscopy related qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Post registration experience in another acute medical/ surgical setting
Desirable criteria
- Post registration experience working in Endoscopy
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of the NHS Constitution & ‘Understanding the New NHS’
- Participates in professional developmen
Desirable criteria
- An understanding of the indications for endoscopic procedures and therapeutic interventions
- Knowledge of JAG GRS standards
Skills

- Clear and accurate verbal/written communication
