Job overview
The Training Programme Director in Emergency Medicine (Mersey) will support the Head of School in the Strategic Development of the School of Emergency Medicine.
The post holder will be a member of the School Board and support the School Operational Programme.
The post holder will lead on the development of the School’s Wellbeing Strategy with a particular focus on Neurodiversity as well as supporting the School to develop an Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity Policy to ensure training is delivered in a fair, equitable manner that recognises and maximises the contributions to be made by all trainees and trainers.
As a result of NHS England's (NHSE) integration into the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), please note that the end date for all new educator secondments/posts will be 31st October 2026. The successful applicant will be updated regarding potential extensions beyond this date.
Main duties of the job
Work in collaboration with the Head of School and other Training Programme Directors to develop a strategy for Wellbeing and Neurodiversity as well as supporting the School’s development of an Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity Policy that together support the education, development and work of Emergency Medicine trainees and trainers.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Work in collaboration with the Head of School for Emergency Medicine to develop and implement a Medical Workforce Strategy which supports the recruitment and retention of Emergency Medicine.
To always demonstrate the values and behaviours of a senior Emergency Medicine Consultant and Educational Leader in line with the values of NHS(E) and the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and with reference to the principles of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Consultant in Emergency Medicine on the Specialist Register
- Fellow of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine
- Consultant currently working in the NHS in the North-West England.
Desirable criteria
- Education Qualification such as Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma or Master’s in Medical Education
Experience
Essential criteria
- A strong awareness of the increasing issues of neurodiverse conditions and how they impact upon individual trainees and how training may be modified to ensure that all work and train to their full potential (including knowledge of the Access to Work scheme).
- A recognition of the current challenges in Emergency Medicine training and a demonstrable commitment to the improvement of the Wellbeing of Emergency Medicine Trainees and Trainers.
- Experience of organizing / delivering education programmes / courses
- Considerable experience of working with doctors in an educational context including experience as an Educational Supervisor.
- Trained and experienced in recruitment, selection and Equality and Diversity in the last 3 years
- Applicants who are doctors require a Licence to Practise

- Previous or current appointment as a Leader in Healthcare Education
