Associate GP Dean for Structured Learning

Fixed Term Contract until 31 March 2026

An opportunity has arisen for 2 session GP Associate Dean to lead and support delivery of structured learning programmes to cover the Thames Valley Region.

Associate Deans have specific responsibilities as agreed in their job plans but retain corporate responsibility with the Scheme TPDs for the organisation and supervision of specialty training programmes for general practice within Thames Valley in line with the national curriculum.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work with other TPDs and Ads.

Key elements of this are:

  • Organising and delivering the course taught to GPRs
  • Advising and supporting hospital and GP trainers
  • Assisting in recruitment and selection of GPRs
  • Resourcing assessment systems (ARCP)
  • Support to doctors in innovative GP training programs such as structured learning
  • Training the workforce (GP Educationalists, admin, GP and hospital trainers, educational and clinical supervisors)
  • Supporting finding innovative ways of expanding capacity for learners and supervisors and supporting and creating innovative training programmes
  • Getting involved with technology to support learners and supervisors
  • Get involved with the SIM faculty as part of the wider move to technology in GP training programs
  • Collaborating with the Primary Care school to support above activities and promoting quality and expansion for all learners in primary car

This appointment is to the Postgraduate School of Primary Care.

This will involve working with the Head of School and Primary Care Dean.

This will involve also doing strategy work with the primary care Dean, head and deputy head of school.

Working for our organisation

Our staff bring expertise across clinical, operational, commissioning, technology, data science, cyber security, software engineering, education, and commercial specialisms — enabling us to design and deliver high-quality NHS services.

We lead the NHS in England by:

  • Enabling local systems and providers to improve the health of their people and patients and reduce health inequalities
  • Making the NHS a great place to work, where people can develop and make a difference
  • Working collaboratively to ensure our healthcare workforce has the right knowledge, skills, values and behaviours to deliver accessible, compassionate care
  • Optimising the use of digital technology, research, and innovation
  • Delivering value for money

Earlier this year, the Government announced that NHS England will gradually merge with the Department of Health and Social Care, to create a smaller, more strategic centre that reduces duplication and waste.

If successful at interview, we will initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). This retrieves key data from your current or previous NHS employer to support onboarding, including competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement. You may opt out at any stage of the process.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.
