Job overview
Airedale NHS Foundation Trust has made significant recent financial investment in developing our Urgent Care Department with state of the art facilities in our Emergency Department and Acute Assessment Unit. The Practice Development Lead for Urgent Care post is a pivotal role in the development of staff, nursing skill and patient care and this opportunity would appeal to a registered nurse with significant experience in patient care, staff development, training and education looking to make a substantial impact on clinical care.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will take lead responsibility for the planning and delivery of education and training of staff across the Urgent Care Department which comprises the Emergency Department, Acute Assessment Unit and the Ambulatory Care Unit. Working in partnership with the Matron for each department within Urgent Care the post holder will lead on nursing development with particular focus on clinical skills acquisition and developing the Urgent Care workforce to have the skills to deliver high quality nursing care according to the strategic goals of service delivery and the needs of the patient group.
This will entail detailed analysis of the learning needs of the workforce and planning training and education to meet those needs, developing training plans for each member of staff and collecting data and maintaining records of training and competency. The post holder will work in partnership with the wider inter-professional team and collaborate with other education providers and healthcare organizations to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered training and education for the workforce with the express aim to maintain and improve the quality of nursing care delivered to patients. The post holder will develop a professional learning culture and environment for the workforce and promote excellence and patient safety, making the Urgent Care department an outstanding place to receive care for patients and for staff to work in.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse with current NMC PIN
- Bachelor’s Degree in a nursing related subject
- Mentorship qualification or equivalent, e.g. ENB 997/ 998, SLIP.
- Recent Leadership development e.g. Edward Jenner Programme / FEN Leader programme / Braver Programme
Desirable criteria
- Master’s Degree
- Teaching qualification (PCGE).
- Registered Teacher on the NMC Register
- Membership or Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
- ALS or APLS instructor
- Willingness to study for a teaching qualification
- Leadership or management qualification or post-graduate study
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant current clinical experience in either an Emergency Department, an Acute Medical Admissions Unit or in Acute or Critical Care
- Complete ED Clinical Skill set competency
- Experience working at a senior level within nursing, leading teams of nurses
- Experience of service development or clinical practice development.
- Clinical skills experience

Desirable criteria
- Published academic material
- Experience of being involved in or conducting clinical research
Teaching, Education and Training Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant history of mentoring and supporting learners in practice.
- Significant experience of developing and supporting colleagues’ own professional development needs
- Experience of teaching to small and large groups or presenting ideas and projects
- Experience of teaching clinical skills in a clinical setting
- Experience of assessing clinical skills
Desirable criteria
- Teaching in an academic setting.
- Previous clinical education or practice development role.
- Teaching resuscitation at BLS, ILS or ALS leve
- Experience of developing teaching materials and teaching programmes.
Specialist Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Current issues in clinical education
- The NMC Standards of Education
- The Emergency Care Association and Society of Acute Medicine Curriculum, Trauma Network and RCN Competency Frameworks
- Political awareness of issues around the NHS, workforce recruitment, retention and development
Other
Essential criteria
- Evidence of significant professional and career development
- Excellent communication skills.
- IT skills such as working with spreadsheets.
- Established leadership skills
Desirable criteria
- Good knowledge of ESR and SystmOne.
