Job overview
The IPS Pathology department is looking to recruit a Cross-site Histopathology Lead.
The post-holder would be expected to work across our sites at Airedale General Hospital, Bradford Teaching Hospital, Harrogate NHS Foundation Trust and other IPS sites as appropriate.
IPS is a joint venture owned by and providing a high-quality pathology service to Airedale NHS Foundation Trust (ANHST), Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BTHFT) and Harrogate and District Foundation Trust (HDFT). All staff working for IPS are NHS employees with standard NHS T&C's.
Main duties of the job
To work in co-operation with the, Medical Director, Managing Director
and Pathology Senior Leadership Team to manage, organise and
deliver a high-quality Histopathology service across IPS sites.
The role will form a triumvirate with the General Manager and Clinical
Director for Histopathology in delivering the service and providing
assurance to the Managing Director and Medical Director. The
triumvirate will work collaboratively with service users and other
stakeholders in the Trusts.
To manage and work closely with the Senior Management Team to
deliver an effective cross-site Histopathology service, providing
strong service leadership to the multi-site laboratory team, promoting
and maintaining high levels of technical and professional standards
To line manage the mortuary staff and secretariat (site dependent)
forming part of general pathology support services.
To ensure that the Pathology Clinical Governance agenda for
Histopathology is delivered and maintained. To ensure maintenance
of the quality management system within Histopathology with the
objective that the departments become progressively more effective
in delivering a high quality service and in meeting both regulatory and
accreditation requirements.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Biomedical Science degree or equivalent qualification
- HCPC registration as Biomedical Scientist
- Holds a relevant post graduate qualification (MSc), conducive with Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science status
- Holds a suitable management qualification or significant experience in a managerial position
Desirable criteria
- Membership of professional body such as IBMS
Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and experience of regulatory and accreditation requirements relevant to Histopathology with demonstrable evidence of involvement in managing Quality Management Systems
- Substantial technical knowledge and experience in Histopathology demonstrating an ability to manage a Histopathology laboratory
- Knowledge and experience of regulatory and accreditation requirements relevant to Histopathology with demonstrable evidence of involvement in managing Quality Management Systems
- Substantial technical knowledge and experience in Histopathology demonstrating an ability to manage a Histopathology laboratory
- Experience in developing, implementing and monitoring policies, procedures and standards, in line with local or national guidelines
- Demonstrable evidence of Human Resource management experience and proven leadership skills
- Experience in training staff of different grades
- Experience of procurement and implementation of equipment, including change control and test validation and verification
