COVID-19 Vacancy Lead Pharmacist - Mass Vaccination Programme

NHS AfC: Band 8b

Our Organisation

NHS England and NHS Improvement came together on 1 April 2019 as a new single organisation. The NHS Long Term Plan focuses on delivering integrated care to patients at the local level and we can best support the NHS to deliver this as a single integrated organisation.

At the NHS, we are reminded every day of how important life is. As a flexible working friendly organisation, we want to be sure that you can work in a way that is best for us and for our patients, and for you. Speak to us about how we might be able to accommodate a flexible working arrangement whether that’s job share, part time or another flexible pattern. In addition,  although the role advertised may have an ‘home’ office base indicated, we remain committed to supporting flexibility around workplace locations. If it works for the service, we will do our best to make it work for you.

Our new operating model represents a strong shift to regional delivery supported by expert corporate teams. Local health systems are supported by our integrated regional teams who play a major leadership role in the geographies they manage.

We are jointly committed to creating and maintaining a fair and supportive working environment and culture, where contributions are fully recognised and valued by all and staff feel empowered to carry out their duties to the best of their abilities. As employers we are committed to promoting and protecting the physical and mental health and well-being of all our staff. This underpins our values as set out in the NHS Constitution, supports us to be an Employer of Choice and ultimately enables our employees to support the effective care of our patients.

Lead Pharmacist – Mass Vaccination Programmes, NHS England & NHS Improvement South West

Pay band – AFC Band 8b-8c (dependent on experience). Seeking 1.2 whole time equivalent pharmacists.

We are recruiting a pharmacy leader for this important and high-profile role in the COVID-19 vaccination programme.

This is an exciting opportunity to use your pharmaceutical expertise to guide pharmacy leaders, non-pharmacy clinicians and operational leads across all vaccination venues and the regional teams. You will liaise closely with and be a valued member of the wider vaccination programme and South West Pharmacy Leadership teams.  You will support providers to set up and deliver safe vaccination services, ensuring that our citizens experience the highest quality services possible.

You will provide expert pharmaceutical advice on primarily the COVID-19 vaccination programme, implementing national policy and building professional relationships with national and regional colleagues. As part of the programme clinical team you may be involved in virtual/in-person visits to community pharmacies and vaccination centres as part of the approval process and possibly other governance visits.  The whole programme recognises the importance of ensuring vaccine integrity being maintained with the pharmaceutical advice on best practice.  This is an opportunity to gain new experiences and exposure in a welcoming and positive work environment.

This is a secondment to 31 March 2023 and would suit a candidate who is looking for a secondment or new part time work.  Full time employees could split their time by agreement with their host employer. The post will be based from home with the requirement to occasionally travel across the South West region. We are seeking 1.2 whole time equivalent pharmacists with experience of the COVID-19 vaccination programme.

Please note that the reason for the fixed term of your contract is short term funding to support the Mass Vaccination Programme
