Job overview

The Head of Business Development (HBD) will be integral to the Business Development Team in supporting Spectrum’s retention and growth agenda through new contracts, opportunities and creating new solutions for health and care. The HBD will report to the Associate Director of Business & Partnerships and work closely with senior leaders throughout Spectrum.

The postholder will be a strategic thinker who can inform the bigger picture, ensuring that all business opportunities and procurement activity is aligned and supports the organisation’s mission to tackle health inequalities in vulnerable groups.

The role involves pursuing business opportunities determined by the senior leadership team: co-ordinating, writing and submitting bids, and management of the overall business development processes and work streams. The postholder will also be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and clients.

Experience of business development within the health and social care sector is essential. Enhanced analytical skills with effective communication attributes (verbal, written and presentational) are essential. Being highly motivated and driven by business growth is fundamental to this post, including having a ‘reputation focused’ mindset - the ability to put yourself in the shoes of others and think strategically about how what we are proposing or doing externally may be perceived by key decision makers, opinion formers and people who use our services.

Main duties of the job

Significant experience in creating high quality, original written content and managing the bidding and tendering process within the health and social care sector. Working within Spectrum’s established Business Development team and with subject matter experts throughout the organisation.

Responsible for managing the end-to-end process from in-depth analysis of tender documentation, through preparing submissions, writing compelling content, coordinating input from internal stakeholders, and participating in post-tender debriefs to continuously improve team performance.

Possesses business understanding and market awareness applying a risk mind-set and the ability to manage complexity when making decisions.

Demonstrates resilience, assertiveness and political insight required during stakeholder interactions, while maintaining the ability to build relationships.

Working alongside the AD Business & Partnerships the postholder will proactively support the delivery of the Business Development Strategy through the workstreams and business plans.

Management of team members both directly and through matrix working to support the delivery of business development activity, building, and maintaining excellent external stakeholder relationships and promoting Spectrum.
