Job overview

As Clinical Director you will work as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high quality, evidence based, patient centered care. The role will involve both clinical working and strategic leadership.  This role is an integral part of the Senior Medical Directorate Leadership Team; The Clinical Director will be a core member of the regional leadership team with collective responsibility for the clinical governance and operational delivery of all clinical and operational services within the region. The role involves working closely with a diverse  stakeholder group including Medical Education, Clinical Substance Misuse, Nursing, Pharmacy,  Secondary Care Mental Health, Psychosocial Recovery Services, Palliative Care, Clinical  Governance and Performance Leads, Operational leaders both at site and regionally, prison  governors, and commissioners.

The Clinical Director role will be covering the North East.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • UK recognised medical qualification
  • Recognised Certificate of Vocational Training in General Practice
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in the relevant clinical and service improvement areas
  • Possess a GMC licence to practice and have registration on a Primary Care Performer’s List
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and ongoing personal development/revalidation
Desirable criteria
  • Higher specialist qualifications or extensive relevant clinical experience
  • Extended clinical skills in an area of specialist clinical practice
  • RCGP Certificate Part 1 and 2 - Substance Misuse
  • NHS Leadership Academy qualifications or equivalent

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience and competency to deliver a high standard of clinical care autonomously and as a part of an MDT team.
  • Primary care mental health
  • Basic drug and alcohol awareness
  • Chronic disease management
  • Understanding of clinical risk management and governance
  • Principles of substance misuse treatment and pharmacotherapy
  • Pain management and management of dependence forming medications prescribing issues
Desirable criteria
  • Women’s health and wellbeing
  • Harm minimisation and management of bloodborne viruses
  • Sexual and reproductive health
  • Experience in research and academic writing
  • Understanding of current health and social policy particularly offender health
  • Experience of senior clinical and strategic leadership within community orsecure environments
