IUC/111 Forecasting and Capacity Planning Co-Ordinator

Working within the Integrated Urgent Care (NHS 111) Workforce Team, the Forecasting and Capacity Planning Co-ordinator is responsible for the production of patient demand forecasts, and capacity and budget plans in accordance with Trust requirements.

The role requires the post holder to ensure the efficient and effective use of resources in line with agreed planning periods, skills, contracted hours, budgetary constraints, and delivery of a safe service for patients.

The role also requires the post holder to ensure the best use of workforce planning tools and to provide advice on the future allocation of resources and budget within IUC Operations.

Main duties of the job

Working within the Workforce Team, the Forecasting and Capacity Planning Co-ordinator is responsible for the production of patient demand forecasts, and capacity and budget plans in accordance with Trust requirements. The role requires the post holder to ensure the efficient and effective use of resources in line with agreed planning periods, skills, contracted hours, budgetary constraints and delivery of a safe service for patients. The role also requires the post holder to ensure the best use of workforce planning tools and to provide advice on the future allocation of resources and budget within IUC Operations.  

As a member of the Workforce Team, the role is expected to assist in the achievement of national and local performance targets, and quality standards for the Workforce Team.  

The post holder will work on own initiative, taking advice from their manager as required with reviews of work.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • To analyse all capacity and demand components using appropriate techniques and tools, interpreting the outcomes, preparing reports, and providing solutions to facilitate operational decision making
  • To provide statistical analysis and insight to support the impact assessment of change, and specifically, forecasting and scheduling effectiveness
  • To use feedback from operations to support recommendations for ongoing process improvement and stronger, more value-adding engagement
  • To engage with all members of the IUC Workforce team to ensure a fully joined-up coherent approach to delivering the resource planning cycle

  • Expert computer knowledge including the use of spreadsheets / databases / complex macros (Access / Advanced Excel)

Qualifications / Knowledge

  • Educated to GCSE (or equivalent) Standard at Grade C or above in Mathematics and English or relevant training and experience to an equivalent level in within an operational workforce planning role covering

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Resource, scheduling, capacity planning and / or demand analysis experience
  • Previous experience using forecasting and capacity and budgeting planning systems, developing clear and concise workforce information reports with statistical analysis
  • Previous experience within workforce planning, developing clear and concise workforce information reports with statistical analysis
  • Experience of forecasting / capacity planning within an operational environment

Personal/Other

Essential criteria
  • Work without direct supervision seeking guidance where appropriate
  • Use own initiative and act independently planning own work schedule and on occasion that of more junior staff
