Business Finance Assistant

Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative and flexible individual to assist in the provision of financial support and advice working with managers within Finance that support A&E Operations and Central Services to establish a sound basis for the planning and development of service changes.  This role has the opportunity to train and develop into a qualified accountant.

The post holder will assist the Finance Business Partner in ensuring that robust monitoring information is provided to enable directorates to manage their financial position and the Trust to fulfill it's financial duties.

The role involves assisting in the production of annual budgets, monthly management reports, financial returns, processing of financial and payroll transactions, and to ensure that budget holders and other key stakeholders receive accurate, timely information and support to enable them to make effective budget decisions.

Main duties of the job

To support the Finance Business Partner and to act as the point of contact for specified service areas

To produce and provide routine financial monitoring information, supporting and advising budget holders, acting as a link support person to a number of specified business units. This will involve performing routine core accounting tasks and responding to day to day queries in line with set timetables, procedures and quality standards:

To assist the Business Finance Manager in ensuring that the team produces financial information which is in line with set procedures and timetables, by helping to coordinate the completion of tasks across the team and by personally completing tasks either because they are best completed by one person on behalf of the team or because they are less routine and of greater complexity.

Person specification

Essential & Desirable

Essential criteria
  • AAT Technician or NVQ level 4 finance/accountancy qualification or willingness to commence study.
  • Working within a finance environment – minimum 1 year experience
  • Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Excel, Word and large GL systems
  • Ability to process, analyse and manipulate complex (financial) data
  • Ability to deliver against tight deadlines
Desirable criteria
  • Has financial management experience within an NHS organisation
  • Vocational Qualifications – studying towards CCAB body qualification
