Job overview

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust is welcoming applications for a full-time permanent Consultant Midwife post to join our expanding multidisciplinary team. This new post is designed to strengthen our midwifery leadership structure. We are looking for enthusiastic, dynamic, and a forward-thinking individual who are committed to teamwork and to delivering safe, high-quality care.

 

The post holder will develop collaborative strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders, working closely with colleagues across midwifery obstetric neonatal and anaesthetic services through application of the four pillars of the consultant midwife:

· Expert Clinical Practice

· Professional Leadership ·

Education, Training, and Development Research, and Evaluation

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work across professional and organisational boundaries to develop local services that meet national and international benchmarks, which are accessible, acceptable, clinically effective and centred in evidence-based practice. This requires the post holder to innovate, work without precedent, process complex information, overcome barriers in communication and negotiate positive change.

 

In partnership with the midwives, medical staff and maternity and Neonatal voices partnership, the post holder will promote and provide equitable and expert responsive care for all women, birthing people and their families. The post holder will take a strategic lead on the design and implementation of effective care pathways for pregnant women and birthing people with a key focus on addressing inequalities in all aspects of care.

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • UK Registered midwife – currently practising
  • Educated to master’s level in a relevant subject or equivalent
  • Leadership training / qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Research qualification or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching and assessment qualification
  • Professional Midwifery Advocate training or willingness to undertake

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

Essential criteria
  • Recent significant experience in all areas of midwifery practice
  • Involvement in development and delivery of education workshops and supporting staff in practice
  • Demonstrable senior leadership and role modelling experience
  • Knowledge and awareness of key national policy initiatives affecting the NHS, local government and social care.
  • Experience of informing/delivering solutions through co-production
  • Experience of leading change within health services
  • Experience of working to address health inequalities and improve public health
  • Proven successful planning and organisation experience
  • Ability to efficiently prioritise own workload whilst working within very tight deadlines and with differing priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience of collaborative working with proven ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels
  • Ability to present complex information including analysis of data and statistics in a concise, accurate and understandable way to a range of audiences
  • Computer literate with an ability to use the required systems/ office packages such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Experience of developing and implementing a midwifery strategy and governance process.
  • Passionate about research, training and professional development and the benefits this can deliver to patient care.
  • Experience of co-design and implementation of service user and staff led initiatives
  • Able to work with and through ambiguity and an ability to ‘think on their feet’ when dealing with issues and problems.
