Specialist Oncology and Spinal Dietitian

Band 6

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our forward-thinking team of Dietitians at Salisbury District Hospital. This full-time post is split across two specialties; oncology (0.6 WTE) and spinal (0.4 WTE).

For the oncology aspect of this role, you will work closely with the Macmillan Lead Dietitian in the provision and development of services for those receiving oncological care at the hospital, both in inpatient and outpatient settings. Alongside a varied oncology caseload, you will lead care on our haematology ward, as well as for our head and neck cancer patients, ensuring high-quality and seamless dietetic care.

For the spinal aspect of this role, you will lead dietetic care at our Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre, a 42 bed regional unit specialising in the rehabilitation of patients following spinal cord injury or spinal cord disease. There will be ample opportunities for service development within this area.

The majority of work will be within the inpatient setting, with opportunity for a small to moderate caseload of oncology outpatients, depending on the preferences of the postholder.

Applications would be accepted from both experienced dietitians and those developing their expertise who have a particular interest in oncology and/or spinal.

This dietetic service takes student placements, and this post-holder would be expected to provide supervision for students and junior staff as required.

Main duties of the job

To work collaboratively with the Macmillan Lead Dietitian in the provision of a specialist dietetic service for oncology patients and their carers across a range of oncological specialties and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

To lead dietetic care for patients with spinal injuries or disease at our Spinal Treatment Centre.

To engage with the network of Spinal Specialist dietitians across the country to develop the spinal dietetic service here at the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre.

To facilitate service development within both oncology and spinal specialties.
