The Ear, Nose and Throat Outpatient Team would welcome applications from a Senior Health Care Assistant who enjoy working independently and working within a team in being instrumental in providing patient focused care.

This post is a full time position, however to support flexible working, part time hours can be discussed at interview (minimum of 21 hours per week)

The successful candidate will join a well-established team and will need to be flexible and adaptable, a good team player with the ability to work well on their own initiative and a willingness to take on a variety of duties, whilst having the ability to maintain attention to detail.

You will ideally have knowledge or experience within a surgical ward environment and previous experiencing of nursing patients with ear, nose or throat conditions.

We ask that candidates applying for this post have a current NHS Care Certificate and a Health and Social Care Qualification at Level 3 with current secondary care experience.

Main duties of the job

Highlighted below are some of the nursing skills needed for a fast-paced working area such as Outpatients:

  • The ability to work both independently and as part of the wider Multidisciplinary Team
  • Supporting and assisting your consultant colleagues in the smooth running of their clinics.
  • Acting as a chaperone.  
  • Being able to undertake baseline measurements; BMI, blood pressures, blood sugar monitoring, ECG’s, Urinalysis as well as venepuncture and/or cannulation.

If you do not already possess all required skills, additional training will be given to support you in this role, but this may initially be at a Band 2 until all Band 3 competencies have been achieved.

Essential criteria
  • GCSE Maths and English or Numeracy and Literacy Level 2
  • NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care
  • NHS Care Certificate
  • Secondary Care Experience
  • Clinical Observation Qualification
  • Venepuncture and Cannulation competancies
  • Undertaking ECG's in emergency situations
  • Recognising a deterioration in a patients condition.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience within link role for specialist area –eg falls, infection control etc
  • Supporting new starters, including inducting them to the clinical environment
  • Ability to learn new skills
