This unique position offers the opportunity to work with patients known to the Specialist Palliative Care Service, supporting them to access creative, therapeutic and educational sessions within the Support Centre and the Hospice Inpatient Unit. Your work will directly enhance patients’ emotional wellbeing, functional ability and overall quality of life.

The Support Centre operates Monday to Thursday, 09:00–15:30.
These days and hours are required for the role. A job share arrangement would be considered.

Main duties of the job
The Peter Gillam Support Centre provides structured day sessions for patients and carers in a supportive, therapeutic environment. As part of this role, you will:

Deliver high-quality, person-centred care to patients attending the Support Centre, including manual handling, toileting and personal care.

Plan, facilitate and evaluate a diverse programme of creative and therapeutic activities for patients attending the Support Centre and those admitted to the Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Work alongside the Support Centre Lead to support the day-to-day organisation, coordination and ongoing development of the service.

Contribute as an active member of the Hospice multidisciplinary team to ensure the highest standards of specialist palliative care.
This role combines hands-on clinical support with meaningful activity provision, making it ideal for a Healthcare Support Worker or Therapy Assistant who is confident meeting patients’ care needs and has a genuine interest in leading engaging group sessions.

- Evidence of experience working in healthcare setting
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Ability to follow instructions and organise workload
- Demonstrates experience of caring for people with diverse needs, with care and compassion
- Ability to plan and evaluate creative and therapeutic activities
- Ability to learn new skills
- Physical ability to support patients with manual handling needs, including use of equipment
Desirable criteria
- NVQ in health and social care or care certificate
- Previous experience in palliative care
- Experience in provision of therapeutic activities
