Job overview

In collaboration with other members of the Infection Prevention & Control Team, the post holder will be proactive and responsible for the prevention, surveillance, investigation and control of infection in Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.

In collaboration with other members of the Infection Prevention & Control Team, the post holder will be proactive and responsible for the prevention, surveillance, investigation and control of infection in Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust. 

 

Main duties of the job

Professional and ethical practice is key to the successful delivery of this role which provides specialist nursing advice to other healthcare professionals, patients/carers and the public on infection prevention and control matters. 

 

The successful candidate will need to:

  • Have a demonstrable knowledge of Microbiology, Immunology and Epidemiology to prevent and control infection and communicable diseases and knowledge of current issues and developments in the nursing care of patients with healthcare associated infections (HCAIs)
  • Understand the needs of the patient requiring isolation, including symptom management and psychosocial support of the family.
  • Work collaboratively and in partnership with other healthcare professionals, demonstrating effective leadership skills at all times
  • Have the ability to provide and receive complex and sensitive information which may require reassurance, tact or persuasion. 

Hours of work and required flexibility Our service runs Monday to Friday, 08.00hrs – 16.00hrs, however, you will need to work weekends/bank holidays when the Trust is in a declared outbreak.

Essential criteria
  • First level registered nurse (active NMC registration) and the Advanced Diploma in Nursing [achieved or working towards]
  • Minimum of 2 years post registration experience and evidence of ongoing CPD
  • Teaching and assessment qualification and experience of Previous experience of formal or informal teaching of patients/staff
  • Knowledge of Microbiology, Immunology and Epidemiology to prevent and control infection and communicable diseases
