Job overview
We have an opportunity for an experienced midwife to join the Quality and Safety team as Lead Quality and Safety Midwife (B7). This is a permanent role.
The postholder will have a critical role in the co-ordination of safety within the Maternity and Neonatal services, focussing on risk and governance.
They will be expected to demonstrate leadership that supports high quality, effective clinical care, placing safety and a positive patient experience at the centre of care that those accessing maternity and neonatal services can expect to receive.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have a leadership role within a multidisciplinary team working within the maternity and new-born division with the objective of protecting women, babies, staff members and the public from risk.
The post holder will provide professional leadership and managerial advice and support to all staff and manage maternity and neonatal adverse incident reporting systems working closely with the Trust Risk Management Department. You will be expected to provide a proactive strategy of risk management aiming to identify risks, provide protection against preventable harm to women, families, babies, employees and the general public thus preserving Trust assets and reputation.
You will be able to identify, co-ordinate and participate in clinical governance activities in partnership with other multidisciplinary staff and make recommendations for continual improvement to demonstrate compliance with the contracts against which the service is commissioned.

Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife with minimum 4 years’ experience and evidence of expertise in all areas of midwifery
- Working knowledge of issues currently impacting on Maternity Services including Clinical Governance and Information Governance
- Clinical midwifery experience in all areas of practice including caring for women at high risk of complications and managing obstetric emergencies.
- Have an excellent understanding of the national maternity agenda and other relevant drivers.
- Full knowledge of Governance structures within maternity services.
- Experience with the Datix Risk Management System
- Evidences Knowledge of PSIRF
