Spinal Centre Medical Secretary

Job overview
The Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre provides life-long follow-up care for spinal patients in its caseload at the Admin Team at the Spinal Centre need to be available to patients, relatives and visitors to the Centre, and outpatients which number over 1,800.
The Medical Secretary will be responsible for managing the office administration for 5 Spinal Consultants as well as other medical staff, contributing and ensuring the effective day to day running of the medical team. The post holder acts as the first point of contact for all forms of communication for the Consultant and their team.
The Medical Secretary liaises with all Salisbury District Hospital departments, other hospitals and GPs covering the whole of the South/Southwest of England, including patient referrals. The post holder will deal with Outpatients as well as telephone queries from relatives, ICB staff, district nurses and general practitioners needing advice and direct to the Consultants or Outpatient teams if necessary.
Main duties of the job
Prioritising the needs of the post and ensuring that all patients are treated within an appropriate timescale in accordance with their medical need. Also taking into consideration the personal and social needs of a patient with a Spinal cord injury. Being able to prioritise workload and manage constant interruptions.
Working as a team to meet the requests of both the clinical team and the Management team.
The post holder will on occasion be exposed to those patients who are experiencing difficulty accepting their condition and will need to display empathy and must be aware of this.
