OMFS Dental Core Trainee

Dental Core Trainee

Applications for this role should be written by the applicant. If artificial intelligence (AI) programmes are used, then the application may be rejected due to this document being an important part of the assessment process. This does not prevent applicants seeking appropriate support with applications should they need to for the purposes of any declared disability.

Job overview

The department is looking to recruit a full time Trust Grade in Oral and OMF Surgery equivalent to DCT1.  The department would consider a job share arrangement.  The successful candidate(s) will be fully integrated into the departmental clinics and out-patient treatment lists as well as involvement with theatres, in-patients and on call.

Main duties of the job

Out-patient Department: The role will contain routine attendance of new and follow up clinics for Oral & OMFS patient care.  There is a wide variety of pathologies treated within the department (cleft, orthognathic, salivary gland, oral medicine etc.) and the opportunity to be present at multi-disciplinary meetings and clinics, including orthognathic, restorative, oral/orthodontic and CBCT.

The successful candidate will perform independent and supervised minor operations under local anaesthesia, and supervised treatments with intravenous sedation.  Previous DCTs have completed a SAAD course during their year, although this is not guaranteed. Full range of level 2 and 3 oral surgery is provided.

Theatre and In-patients: Supervised general anaesthetic lists including treatment of impacted and ectopic teeth provides an excellent opportunity to improve surgical skills. Management of inpatients including access to the full range of OMFS surgery.

On Call: On call provision is based in Salisbury Monday to Friday 8am to 9pm on a 1 in 4 basis.
