Main duties of the job

To line manage, support, and oversee the work of the Senior Technicians, and assistants.

Responsible for the day-to-day management and co-ordination of the training of technical staff (technicians and production operatives) across all production sections.  Organises and delivers relevant training to all staff involved in production activities. 

To undertake a full range of technical pharmaceutical activities within the pharmacy Aseptic Unit including the preparation and / or manufacture of medicines, ensuring that the principles of Quality Assurance, GMP and Quality Control are always applied.

To carry out pre-preparation checks and final product approval and release for aseptically dispensed products/prescriptions.

To work within defined standard operating procedures where work is managed rather than supervised by the Technical Services Operational Lead  and the Accountable Pharmacist.

To provide or receive complex, sensitive information requiring tact or persuasive skills to ward staff on sterile products prepared by the aseptic service and when handling technical staff issues within the aseptic unit.

Meet essential criteria

Essential criteria
  • • BTEC and NVQ Level 3 Pharmaceutical Science (or equivalent technician qualification recognised by the GPhC for the purpose of registration).
  • • Registered as a Pharmaceutical Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • • Up to date record of Continued Professional Development with evidence of reflective practice.
  • • Accredited checking pharmacy technician or equivalent qualification.
  • • Minimum five years relevant post qualification experience including hospital pharmacy.
  • • Experience at any grade in aseptic services and Quality Assurance
Desirable criteria
  • • Completion of external accredited course in Technical Services, Quality Assurance or relevant area.
  • • Recognised Accredited Aseptics Technician Checking Qualification for Pre and In-process Checking and Final Product Approval and Release (Accreditation will be provided as part of post if not already achieved).
