Job overview

The role of the consultant would be to provide consultant led care in an out patient setting. This 10 PA post would attract 5 clinic sessions. In addition, the consultant would be required, on a rota basis to see ward referrals, cover the Rheumatology patients in the infusion unit and manage Cinapsis (advice and guidance for GPs). There is the potential to be engaged in research and education.

It is expected that the post holder will build upon the current strengths of the department and develop best quality care across the spectrum of inflammatory disease. The department would encourage specialist interest and development.

There is no out of hours on-call commitment.

Main duties of the job

The post will consist of a minimum of 5 clinics per week for a 10 PA contract.

It is expected that at least one clinic will be dedicated to connective tissue disease and one clinic per month to early inflammatory arthritis in accordance with the National early inflammatory arthritis audit.

The holder will be expected to participate in a weekly rota for ward referrals, infusion clinic cover and management of Cinapsis advice and guidance.

The holder will be encouraged to support the registrar and specialist nurses and to participate in educational sessions.

Qualifications and Specialist Training

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
  • Possession, or within 6 months of possession, of a CCT

Experience

Essential criteria
  • General medical experience
  • Evidence of wide experience and a high level of competence in rheumatology
  • Knowledge and application of up to date evidence based practice
Desirable criteria
  • NHS experience
  • Rheumatology Experience

Management Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to perform effectively as a member of a team, including a multidisciplinary team and to motivate and develop staff
  • Commitment to active clinical governance and learning from errors
