Job overview
To assist the children’s physiotherapy team to provide a high standard of care to children, young people and their families.
To deliver physiotherapy to children and young people referred by qualified physiotherapists in individual, group and hydrotherapy treatment sessions.
To undertake routine administrative and departmental tasks to support the physiotherapy team and the therapy secretary.
Main duties of the job
Working in our Children's Out-patients department and on Sarum Ward the post holder will:
· Provide, or assist qualified therapists to deliver, therapy to patients. This includes tasks such as enabling children to mobilise, re-education of gait (walking), transfers including wheelchair transfers, hoisting, stairs, active exercises and passive movements, using transfer aids, developmental play, exercise sessions and hydrotherapy.
· To encourage and motivate children to participate in physical activity whilst managing their pain, fatigue or medical conditions
· To teach patients safe use of aids and equipment, under the guidance of the therapist
· To support children and young people to access exercise equipment safely, this includes use of a treadmill and exercise bike.
· To order provisions, consumables, materials and equipment needed in the daily running of the therapy team, as appropriate. To keep accurate stock controls.
· To ensure the safe and effective use of resources and facilities. To ensure that the clinical area is kept clean and tidy with safe use, maintenance and storage of equipment and materials.
· Undertake routine administrative tasks to facilitate the smooth running of the therapy team.

Essential criteria
- NVQ level 2 or equivalent qualification in maths and English
Desirable criteria
- NVQ level 3 or other relevant training
Experience

- Experience of working in a role with direct patient/client contact
- Experience of working as an effective team member
- Experience of working under indirect supervision
Desirable criteria
- Recent experience of working in a therapy or nursing support worker role or equivalent relevant experience
- Experience of working with children or young people
- Evidence of working in the NHS
