Job overview

This is a substantive, specialist Functional, Reconstructive and Neuro-Urology Consultant Surgeon full time role. It is an exciting opportunity to work in a progressive and friendly department with a focus on enhancing our Functional, Reconstructive and Neuro-Urology services.

 We are looking for a consultant who can deliver specialist care in outpatient clinic, by performing outpatient procedures (such as LA flexi botox and Videourodynamics), and in theatre. The successful candidate will attend the Neuro-urology and Pelvic Floor MDT and help develop our pathways. The successful candidate will work closely with and support the development of our specialist nursing team.

Salisbury Urology department has 7 consultant urologists. We have 5 middle grade doctors, 3 foundation year doctors, 9 specialist urology nurses and 3 HCAs. We have our own outpatient department in which we perform diagnostics such as cystoscopy, ultrasound and urodynamics, as well as procedures such as precision point biopsy, TULA and flexi botox.

Main duties of the job

The post is full time 10PA job plan. The successful candidate will contribute to a 1 in 7 on call rota and the role includes delivery of outpatient clinics, outpatient procedures, and emergency and elective theatre work.

The 10 PA weekly job plan would (on average) include 8.5 PAs Direct Clinical Care (including on-call duties and DCC admin) and 1.5 PAs Supporting Professional Activities. 

The posts are offered on a whole-time basis (10PA), but suitably qualified applicants who wish to work part-time will be considered. We are committed to flexible working arrangements, including job sharing, and we will discuss these arrangements with any shortlisted candidates. We welcome applications from established consultants and senior trainees who will be within six months of completion of specialist training at the time of the Advisory Appointments Committee. Applicants must have completed specialist training in urology and have entered on the GMC Specialist Register prior to taking up the appointment.
