Band 6 Clinical PACS Specialist Radiographer

We are looking to recruit a Band 6 Clinical PACS Specialist Radiographer to join our friendly team here at the Great Western Hospital.

The Great Western Hospital are currently undergoing a PACS and RIS replacement project in their Radiology department and are looking to expand the clinical PACS team. This role remains as a clinical Radiographer working on a rotational basis and will require participation in the out of hours and weekend rota.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an established Radiographer with NHS experience and a special interest in digital systems, looking to increase their knowledge and work with state-of-the-art equipment. This role currently includes a 5% recruitment and retention premium which is reviewed annually.

Main duties of the job

The Radiology Department undertakes approximately 251,300 examinations a year ranging over a variety of modalities. The successful applicant will be a keen team player who has image quality and patient care high on their agenda with a flexible approach to working hours. The department supports the development of your clinical skills and education, we encourage staff CPD.

The Great Western Hospital conducts diagnostic radiological examinations across a range of clinical specialities, adapting techniques to accommodate a range of patient types; both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multidisciplinary team, in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal requirements.

To ensure the effective and efficient provision of Picture Archiving and Communication systems (PACS) and Radiology information systems (RIS), in the clinical setting of the Radiology Department. Working under the PACS Manager. To work with IT and administrative staff who ensure the delivery and quality of the system.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To deputise for the PACS Manager and manage the day to day running of PACS/RIS within the trust in their absence. A service integral to patient safety across the trust.
  • To provide specialist clinical and technical advice on information systems such as PACS, ICE and RIS pertaining to the clinical setting within the Radiology Department. 
  • To work within a multidisciplinary team and maintain working relationships with the IT and Clinical Applications Teams
  • To make complex judgements involving patient image files and the information stored within these.
  • To ensure that patient systems data is preserved and not compromised. Activities may impact directly on patient care. Faults may constrain system users from carrying out patient care; any issues relating to patient systems should be raised with the PACS manager/Senior Management with the highest priority.
  • The Post holder will be required to assess information system settings and parameters. The post holder will be required to analyse multiple and complex data streams and make changes where appropriate.
  • On a daily basis, liaise with the PACS Manager to ensure a range of housekeeping tasks are completed where unresolved jobs are identified, depending on priority, patient service implications, complexity and workload.
  • Post holder is responsible for ensuring the quality of radiology data being sent to both the local and national store.
  • Outcomes may be defined, but the post holder will be required to decide how they are best achieved using initiative and experience. The post holder should liaise with the PACS Manager where appropriate.
  • The post holder is required to switch concentration between several different information systems when resolving problems. Interruptions will occur as new problems arise, resulting in plans being altered at a moment’s notice.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent
  • Registered with the Health Care Professions Council
  • Evidence of working and training undertaken with Radiology IT systems
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Post graduate qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post graduate experience in Radiography
  • Worked within NHS setting
  • Experience of a Radiology Information Systems including CRIS, ICE and PACS.
  • Experience with both hardware and software associated with Radiology Systems
  • Experience of dealing with challenging situations

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team or single-handedly
  • Excellent patient care
  • Good communication skills
  • Detailed knowledge of Radiological procedures and modalities
