Special Care Dentist Band A (Full Time) based in Swindon - Permanent
We are looking for an enthusiastic Dentist to join our existing team, providing Special Care and Urgent Care to meet the needs of adults and children in the local community in Swindon.
You should be innovative, flexible and committed to working in a team environment while providing high standards of clinical care.
The post holder will be required to work 8:30- 17:00, with one hour for lunch, 5 days per week. Our Community Dental Service has 4 dental clinics, within Wiltshire & Swindon. We work in domiciliary settings and within main hospitals therefore use of a motor vehicle is essential. You will join our team to provide care for our service users, those patients with dental needs outside of general practice, and be supported by a Senior Leadership team, offering mentoring and support and experienced line management.
Main duties of the job
To provide Special Care Dentistry and Urgent Care Dentistry to the population of Wiltshire and Swindon. The post holder will be required to deliver services within the GWHFT Community Dental Service contract and day to day management of a defined clinical area.
The Service is pan Wiltshire, and because of this the post holder may be required to deliver services from any of our 4 sites in Chippenham, Salisbury and Swindon, and in domiciliary settings. The main base for duties will be Chippenham Dental Access Centre. The role may include participating in General Anaesthetic & Inhalation Sedation Lists, and Domiciliary Care.
The post holder will be supported by the Clinical Director, and Assistant Clinical Director, with regular one to ones, clinical support and mentoring, with a generous study leave allowance to allow professional development.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Provision of assessment, comprehensive treatment planning and treatment for people with special needs who are unable to obtain care from other providers. These include those clients with learning difficulties, physical disabilities, who are medically compromised or have behavioural problems, as well as children with additional needs, and children under 5 with high caries rates.
- Provide dental treatment as required and to undertake urgent, routine and complex treatment in line with Trust protocol and current best practice
- Provision of assessment, treatment planning and treatment of patients in domiciliary settings
- Promote and maintain patients’ oral health within NHS regulations
- Work with the wider clinical team, in the provision of high quality dental care for the patients

Education, Qualifoications and Training
Essential criteria
- BDS or equivalent
- Full registration with GDC
- VT Number or equivalent
- Commitment to CPD
- On an NHS Dental Performers List
Desirable criteria
- Familiarity with Dental IT systems
- Commitment to learn NHS rules and regulations
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience of providing routine dental care
Desirable criteria
- Experience working in a community Dental Service
- Experience of more complex dental care
- Appropriate post graduate qualification
- Previous use of SOEL Health practice management software
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- The ability to complete clear and concise patient records using practice management software
- A good standard of written and spoken English is required to be able to undertake the relevant duties.
- Able to be accurate and good attention to detail
- Leadership and motivational abilities
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Best Interest Case work
