Job overview
Applications are invited for one full time Clinical Fellow ST3+ doctor in Urology.
The Department of Urology comprises of a mix of Consultants, Specialty Trainees/Clinical Fellows ranging from ST3 to ST8 level and junior level trainees. It is a busy clinical environment with a large volume of elective and emergency surgery and scope for personal development. A number of our current trust grade registrars are completing their FRCS examinations.
Swindon is a major town set within the rural beauty of Wiltshire, nestling between the Cotswolds to the North and Marlborough Downs to the South. Travel to major cities including Bristol, Oxford and London is easy with very frequent rail links and within an hour’s journey by rail. The M4 motorway is within a couple of miles for travel by road. Locally, accommodation is affordable for this part of the country and there are excellent shopping, social and sports facilities within easy reach.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work within the Urology team. Together with their colleagues they will be responsible for the day to day management of their team’s in-patients, perform the
duties of the on-call Urology registrar and attend theatre and out-patients. If appointed you will be one of six Urology registrars who all participate in the on-call.
The successful candidate also will be expected to participate with the training of junior staff and medical
students attached to the Urology Department.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Urology department have a long history of Urological rotations, with the emphasis being of training in the
environment of a busy, large District General Hospital with consultant teams with excellent links to nearby
teaching centres notably Oxford and Bristol. The successful candidates will provide on call cover for the team on a 1 in 6 rolling rota, and providing ward cover for the team’s in-patients. There is potential
opportunity for “hands-on” training in the operating theatre. . The successful candidate will have opportunity to take study leave to attend examinations and courses as required.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MB BS or GMC registerable medical qualifications.
- Registration with the GMC with a license to practice
- Successful completion of MRCS or equivalent
- Evidence of training progression
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Completed F1 and F2 year (or equivalent outside UK)
- Completed CT/ST1/2 in General Surgery
- Recent experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems & practices (or equivalent)
- At least 24 months experience in surgery of which at least 6 months experience has been in General Surgery
- Evidence of good progression in chosen career
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Evidence of understanding and application of knowledge o speciality
- Willing to seek help from senior colleagues as appropriate
Clinical Skills
Essential criteria
- Competent in history taking and examination skills((e.g. experience of basic life support and resuscitation skills)
