Job overview
The post is for ST1-2 level in Paediatrics and Neonatology. It is not essential that prior experience is had in paediatrics, as we will train and promote development of skills in this area.
Shifts will include work on the Childrens Ward (including looking after those at HDU level), Neonatal Unit and Postnatal Ward/Delivery Suite, Paediatric Assessment Unit, and include reviewing some children in Emergency Department. There is also the opportunity to run outpatient clinics under the support of the consultant.
Main duties of the job
The Duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.
Clinical Duties:
1. To be part of the ST1-2 Team (junior-grade) at the Great Western Hospital.
2. To provide in-patient services for children and infants
3. To participate in professional meetings for patient care
4. To participate in the Junior paediatric rota [including out of hours]
5. Participation in clinical audits.
6. To contribute to undergraduate/post-graduate and continuing medical education activity.
7. Conducting suitable duties in cases of emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
8. Participate actively in patient safety, morbidity and other professional/patient meetings
9. Participate actively in Child Safeguarding

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Management and Leadership Responsibilities:
All staff in each Directorate are managerially accountable through their Lead Clinician and to the Associate Medical Director, who has overall responsibility for the services within the Directorate. Clinical Fellow ST1-2 level doctors are key members of the Directorate team and are accountable and responsible for following the changes to service that will improve the patient experience set out by senior members of the team.
1. The post holder will ensure effective communication and involvement of staff across the Directorate including support to the Divisional Director to achieve their objectives.
2. Work in partnership with colleagues in other Directorates within the Trust.
3. Work within the Trust’s framework for Clinical Governance and Risk, including the development of clinical policies and adherence to standing orders, standing financial instructions and financial procedures.
