Employer heading
Specialist Cancer Pharmacist
Band 7
Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a unique organisation, serving as the sole integrated provider in the Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon, and Wiltshire system. Our scope extends beyond boundaries as we oversee adult community services in Swindon and provide acute care from the Great Western Hospital.
Our 5,500 staff have 1.2m patient contacts a year, with 13,000 operations carried out in our Theatres, around 4,000 babies born, and our emergency attendances are now well over 100,000 per year. Those numbers only tell part of our story about what an exciting time it is to join Great Western Hospitals.
We are cultivating a culture that fosters our ambitions, prioritising equality, diversion, inclusion, wellbeing, and leadership. We aim to create an environment where every member of our team can truly thrive.
Applications for this role should be written by the applicant. If artificial intelligence (AI) programmes are used, then the application may be rejected due to this document being an important part of the assessment process. This does not prevent applicants seeking appropriate support with applications should they need to for the purposes of any declared disability.
If we receive a high volume of applications, we may close adverts prior to the published closing date. Therefore, we advise you to complete and submit your application as soon as possible.
Job overview
Are you ready to make a meaningful impact in cancer care?
We’re looking for a compassionate, forward-thinking pharmacist to join our dedicated Cancer Pharmacy Team.
At Great Western Hospital, we’re proud to deliver high-quality haematology and oncology services to a diverse population across Swindon and Wiltshire. As a Specialist Cancer Pharmacist, you’ll be at the heart of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team - working closely with consultants, nurses, and allied health professionals to provide truly patient-centred care.
You’ll contribute across inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, the day treatment unit, and our JACIE-accredited stem cell transplant service. We’re also part of the Thames Valley Cancer Alliance, offering opportunities to engage with regional networks and help shape cancer services beyond our Trust.
Main duties of the job
We’re investing in the future of cancer care. Our state-of-the-art aseptic unit is nearing completion, and our new radiotherapy centre is already transforming lives - providing advanced treatment locally and reducing the need for patients to travel. These developments, alongside innovations in electronic prescribing and robotic dispensing, reflect our commitment to delivering safe, efficient, and patient-focused services.
You’ll be supported by experienced colleagues, including our Advanced Clinical Pharmacy Technicians, and encouraged to lead on service development, new medicines implementation, and quality improvement projects.
Whether you’re an experienced oncology/haematology pharmacist (Band 7) or a clinical pharmacist ready to specialise (Band 6 development role), we’ll support your growth with structured training, mentorship, and opportunities to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Oncology and non-medical prescribing.
Join a team that values compassion, collaboration, and continuous learning - where your voice matters and your work transforms lives.
