School Nurse
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full time
Salary: £30,589.91 per annum
Join Uppingham School’s Health Centre team and play an important role in supporting the health, wellbeing and pastoral care of pupils within one of the UK’s leading boarding schools.
As School Nurse, you will provide high-quality, child-centred nursing care to pupils aged 11–18, working as part of an experienced Health Centre team and alongside House staff, pastoral colleagues and external healthcare professionals. You will assess and treat pupils attending the Health Centre, provide first aid and emergency care, develop individual healthcare plans and support pupils managing both short and long-term medical needs.
This is a varied role that goes well beyond day-to-day clinical care. You will contribute to health education and promotion across the school, build trusted relationships with pupils, advise colleagues on the management of medical conditions, support safeguarding and welfare, and help ensure the continuity of care across Uppingham’s boarding community.
You may also act as Nurse in Charge during designated shifts, giving you the opportunity to take responsibility for the effective running of the Health Centre.
This role is for 36 hours per week, 33 weeks per year, and operates on a four-week rolling rota. The shift pattern includes a combination of early, late, long day, and night shifts.
About you
You will hold a relevant nursing degree or Higher Diploma in Nursing, or be a qualified HCPC-registered paramedic, together with current NMC or HCPC registration.
Experience of working with children is essential, alongside confidence in assessing illness and injury and a commitment to maintaining your professional development. Experience within a school or boarding environment, accident and emergency, minor injuries or general practice nursing would be an advantage.
Most importantly, you will be approachable and professional, with excellent communication skills, sound clinical judgement and the ability to remain calm under pressure while working both independently and as part of a close-knit team.
